Villa Allora is located on Uzdrowiskowa Street in Konstancin-Jeziorna. It was built in the 1930s to a design by Lucjan Korngold (probably in collaboration with Henryk Blum). It was extended in the 1990s. The design for the changes was prepared by architects Zbigniew Tomaszczyk and Irena Lipiec of AZT Architekci.
It is a unique example of architecture from long ago. The building is considered one of the best examples of Polish functionalism. Villa Allora was built on the commission of Dr Władysław Szatenstajn. Construction began in 1935 and was completed in 1937.
The architect designed it with a characteristic undercut on the ground floor on the south side. This part was supported on pillars and is distinguished by a semicircular closure on the east side. This is a reference to the naval style. This treatment made it possible to create a striking terrace crowning the entire corner.
The first floor is distinguished by tall, five-pane windows. The eastern façade, in turn, is decorated with a semicircular risalit. The design of the building follows the principles of modern architecture indicated by Le Corbusier. The free-standing ground floor, whose functions can be freely shaped, the already mentioned pillar-based semi-circular closure supporting the ground floor, the flat roof and the ribbon windows.
The redevelopment of the building, designed in the late 1990s, included a major renovation. At that time, the villa’s exterior was renovated and works were carried out inside the building. The house was also extended with a new section. The east wing was added to the façade and the layout of the window and door openings was slightly altered. Importantly, despite the changes carried out at the time, it was possible to preserve the villa’s modernist character. Today, the villa is listed in the municipal register of historical monuments.
