Its condition was dire. Ryx’s manor house in Piaseczno regained its shine

The Mazovian Provincial Conservator of Monuments has announced that Ryx’s Manor House in Piaseczno has undergone comprehensive renovation and conservation work. Among other things, it was possible to uncover 18th century paintings that decorated the walls of the rooms.

Ryx’s Manor House in Piaseczno is commonly referred to as “Poniatówka”. The colloquial name stems from the fact that the manor was frequented by Prince Józef Poniatowski. Until a few years ago, the technical condition of the building left much to be desired. This can be seen in the photograph from 2011, which we publish below. Fortunately, the historical one has regained its shine and the place can be visited by everyone.

The manor house was probably built in 1780 by Franciszek Ryx – a valet and favourite of Stanisław August Poniatowski, ennobled by him and bestowed with the title of the honorary starost of Piaseczno. Thanks to archaeological research and historical analysis, it can be assumed that the manor house was built on the foundations of an earlier starosta Aleksander Sulkowski’s house, dating from the first half of the 18th century. Research in 2018 was carried out by Dr. Eng. arch. Marek Barański and M.Sc. arch. Paweł Kinsner.

At the beginning of the 1890s, the building became the property of Countess Cecylia Plater-Zyberk, the founder of the Economic Institution in Chyliczki. It served a residential function for the female teachers and later for the female students of the Establishment,” recalls the Mazovian Provincial Conservator of Monuments.

“Poniatówka” was rebuilt by the Countess and then functioned as a school building and served residential functions for female teachers. In later years, female pupils lived in the building.

A branch of the Piaseczno Museum will operate in the renovated building, so the building will be open for everyone to see.
