Sometimes, peace and quiet turns out to be the greatest luxury. This bright flat is situated in Gdańsk – in Letnica, to be precise – and is just a short walk from the sea. The interior was designed by Anna Lange of Lā Studio, who has created a space that draws inspiration from the coastal landscape in a subtle and contemporary way. Instead of overt nautical motifs, the design features light, soft forms and a colour palette reminiscent of sand dunes, sand and the pale sky over the Baltic Sea. The location – situated between the urban fabric and the coastal areas – served as the starting point for a design intended to provide everyday comfort whilst remaining timeless and imbued with a natural lightness.
The aim was to create an interior that would serve as a tranquil backdrop to everyday life – one that does not dominate its inhabitants, but allows them to build their own stories and memories. The coastal light served as the inspiration for the project – it set the tone for both the colour scheme and the choice of materials. Light-coloured wood, natural fabrics and subtle shades of beige, green and blue create an atmosphere of harmony, whilst carefully chosen colour accents add character to the interior, appearing like reflections of the light.
Living area
The heart of the flat is the open-plan living area, where two seemingly different worlds come together. The soft lines of the sofa, the rounded forms of the furniture and the warm, sandy colour palette create an atmosphere of tranquillity. Opposite them stands the kitchen – steel, striking and contemporary in character. It is the strongest compositional accent of the entire design. The cool steel reflects natural light, creating a contrast with the natural wood, soft fabrics and rounded forms of the furnishings. However, its technical aesthetic is balanced by warm materials and a subtle colour scheme, making the kitchen an elegant hub for everyday activities.
Soft lines and light
In the lounge area, the rounded forms of the furniture and accessories catch the eye. The muted colour scheme, soft fabrics and subtle lighting create an atmosphere conducive to relaxation. Large glazed areas allow natural light to flood into the interior, shaping the space throughout the day and bringing out the textures of the materials and delicate colour nuances.
Quiet zones
The bedroom has been designed as a place of relaxation. Natural materials and harmonising shades create an atmosphere conducive to tranquillity. The Salak – Dessert steel chair features here, echoing the steel kitchen. The repetition of this material in different parts of the flat reflects a consistent narrative, in which cool steel meets soft forms, light-coloured wood and a colour palette inspired by coastal light.
We find a similar coherence in the bathroom. Delicate tiles, subtle shades of blue and the organic shape of the mirror create a space with an almost holiday-like feel. It is an interior that, rather than an excess of decoration, focuses on simplicity, naturalness and a sense of harmony.
Balance in everyday life
The whole is based on a balance between functionality and emotion. The flat does not seek to impress with an excess of design features. Instead, it offers something far more valuable – a sense of lightness, tranquillity and closeness to the seaside surroundings. The sea remains out of sight, yet its presence is palpable in every detail: in the light, colours and materials, which make everyday life here flow a little more slowly and… pleasantly!
