It’s in Powiśle. This is how they designed the interior of a flat in Warsaw

In Warsaw’s Powiśle district, studio bo/sko designed a flat that combines modernist discipline with a hushed, intimate aura. On 70 square metres, a space was created with clear geometry, soft light and a perceptible rhythm of materials – a design refined together with the owner, for whom aesthetics without exaggeration and authenticity were as important as everyday comfort. The result is an eclectic mix, every bit of which is beautiful.

Light, rhythm and order

Daria Bolewicka and Daria Skoczylas-Woźniak from studio bo/sko know that good design starts from the entrance to the flat. That is why the maroon and beige chequered floor – distinctive, set in a classic palette – catches the eye right from the threshold. The dark woodwork flows seamlessly from the hall to the living area, drawing a line of order and leading the eye deeper into the flat. One of the walls – separating the former bathroom – has been partially demolished and replaced with glass blocks that add rhythm to the space and bring light into the depths of the rooms. The height of more than 290 cm allowed the introduction of large areas of clay plaster – natural, gently matte plaster that breathes and works with the space. The cream walls are combined here with a classic herringbone in brushed oak, adjacent to the strong geometry of the stoneware.

Materials and details in the living area

In the living area, the architects opted for expressive but balanced elements. Ligne Roset leather armchairs and a table with a graphic lamp suspended centrally above the tabletop appear – points that organise the space without dominating its character. The kitchenette is a combination of natural stone, chrome details and minimalist joinery in warm wood tones; the built-ins round seamlessly into the hall wall, emphasising the organic lines and softness of the transitions.

The investor is a psychologist with a strong aesthetic sense and a great sensitivity to colour. She knew what she didn’t want and had a strong vision of what was important to her. She was looking for an interior that would not be exaggerated, but at the same time would have a strong character,’ say project authors Daria Bolewicka and Daria Skoczylas-Wozniak.

Intimate private area and bath room

The bedroom, study and dressing room create a more intimate part of the flat. The bedroom is dominated by the soft form of the bed, a minimalist colour scheme and a strong architectural frame. The passageway to the dressing room is accentuated with a rounded portal, and the bright study with a large window overlooking the greenery is used for both work and relaxation.

The Powiśle flat has two bathrooms: the smaller one, at the entrance, is a surprising combination of burgundy ceramics, black stone and matt textures that creates an almost scenographic atmosphere. The main bathroom, on the other hand, is a full-size bath room with a bathtub, a large mirror and a stone countertop; a strong accent of ultramarine emphasises the composition, while glass blocks build light and depth.

One important aspect was the inclusion of the owner’s personal pieces: a vintage Persian rug, a painting – a frame from the film ‘Peasants’ – and books and sentimental objects.

We wanted the interior to be more than just aesthetically pleasing – it also had to be authentic. Hence, the selectively chosen details, balanced colours and spaces that do not impose themselves by form,” add the designers.

The design of the bo/sko studio shows the flat as a personal space, rooted in the needs of the user, but not devoid of aesthetic ambition. By combining craftsmanship, architecture and the emotional dimension of everyday life, an interior has been created that is memorable – not only through form, but above all through atmosphere.
