It’s in Szczecin. New interior of an old flat in a tenement

The interior design of a flat in a tenement house in Szczecin was prepared by architects from the JK PARTNERS studio. They created a modern space that corresponds to the old architecture.

The flat is located in the heart of Szczecin’s former working-class district, in a 100-year-old tenement house. It is large at 93 square metres. Its current arrangement is an example of a harmonious combination of the past and modernity. The main aim of the architects was to recover as many of the original post-German elements as possible and to refer to modernism, breaking it down with modern design – modern vintage.

In the interior, the floor is decorated with original, century-old planks. The doors are equally old. The architects have retained the original layout of the rooms.

I love the orderliness of German functional layouts. I appreciate this flat for its architectural ‘purity’, which has not been tampered with, retaining its original condition and well-balanced room sizes, says the owner of the property.

The interior design was handled with care. Without a specific vision, they were inspired by many aesthetics – from vintage furniture, space age, anime and Japanese culture to minimalism. The choice was eclecticism!

The main theme of the living room is the navy blue colour of the walls. It determined the subsequent arrangement. The blue walls were juxtaposed with a blue sofa and colourful accessories. The contrast to the fusion of colours in the living room are the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. These are all-white rooms, calming spaces, ideal for relaxing after a hard day’s work.

The owners of the flat run an interior design office, so they were keen to create a work space here where they could receive clients. So they combined a study with a dining room. The result is a room they call JADALGAB, with a large conference and dining table and desks that can be easily stowed away.

The unique interior design in a 100-year-old tenement in Szczecin is not only a tribute to history, but also an example of a modern approach to design, combining the past with the present. It is a harmonious and functional interior.
