The building was designed by architects from the 3DPROJEKT architecture studio. The house for fans of minimalism has a simple form and a gabled roof referring to traditional construction. Its owners dreamt of having a place that would provide shelter, rest and relaxation. The green surroundings are conducive to meditation and offer a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The house was designed by Izabela Markowska and Mariusz Wojtczak. In their work, the architects attach great importance to the emotions evoked by the surroundings of the designed objects. The designed blocks must fit in with nature, interact with it and create a coherent whole. This was the idea behind their work on the “House on the Edge of the Forest” project.
The house was built on a site surrounded by greenery. The trees growing nearby have become part of the design and seem to penetrate inside. While inside, one can follow the changing colour of the leaves, observe the flow of time and the power of nature. The latter is intended to accompany the occupants of the house, which is why the architects decided to use natural materials and build a traditional block, the form of which is reminiscent of a modern habitat.
The architects proposed a limited colour palette. The dark windows disappear against the dark façade, which reduces the number of eye-catching elements and causes the building to blend in with its surroundings. The large glazings give the building a light appearance. Investors can also enjoy the greenery in winter, facilitated by the two-storey orangery at the front. Its construction has turned nature into an architectural element and creates a buffer between the world inside and the world around.
We wanted the owners of this house not to lose contact with their original natural surroundings even for a moment, ” explains architect Mariusz Wojtczak.
The roofs and walls of the house are covered with large-format ceramic tiles. The architects consciously dispensed with gutters and downpipes, placing the emphasis on pure form. Instead, in order to ensure the safe flow of rain down the facades, individually designed flashings were used around the windows and on the corners of the building, giving the facades an industrial frame. This type of stylistic play is part of the DNA of the 3DPROJEKT architects from Łódź.
The designers applied a clear functional division of the interior. Interestingly, the common and private space have been located in separate blocks. The transparent living area is located perpendicular to the private wing. The façade of the night part is less glazed.
The rooms of the house are designed in a minimalist style. Visually, the space is warmed up by wood accessories, and industrial details add character. Architect Izabela Markowska admits that for years she has been a fan of the work of Wes Anderson, the American screenwriter and director whose work is visually dominated by symmetry. This fascination is reflected particularly in the living area of the house. The compositions of the walls, fireplaces, glazing and furniture prove that symmetry dominates here at every turn.
