It’s on a lake. This is how they decorated the house in Kashubia

The house is surrounded by greenery and offers residents a view of the lake. It is a space where the forests of the Tuchola Forest meet the Kashubian lakes, creating a picturesque landscape. The house in Kashubia was designed by Andrzej Cieminski, but its interior is the work of the Studio Iskry duo – Marysia Gajewska and Michał Niedośpiał.

When working on the interior design, the architects listened to the investors’ needs. The owners wanted to be able to surround themselves with furniture and accessories that referred to local traditions and emphasised the building’s surroundings. A part of the house is a natural garden with a flower meadow and plants traditional to the Polish landscape.

In arranging the house, the designers used natural materials and bold colours, which were taken from Kashubian patterns. The freshness is added by modern furniture, which has been juxtaposed with family heirlooms.

The seemingly old-fashioned objects were refreshed to bring a new eclectic character to the interior,” describe the authors of the project.

The character of the space is already evident in the entrance area. Through a large glass door, colourful accents and a warm shade of wood can be seen. A compact corridor leads to the living room, which is decorated with a blue bench. The heart of the building is the living area, consisting of an open-plan kitchen connected to the dining area and the living room. This is where the occupants spend most of their leisure time, relaxing, receiving guests, feasting… This culinary experience is made possible by the comprehensive kitchen. The architects designed it in deep green. The frame fronts with their visible grain evoke classic kitchens. The kitchen worktop is made of deeply brushed granite with a distinctive grain. The functionality of the space is ensured by the oak island, which has characteristic curves. The latter have given the island a lightness.

The living room is visually separated from the kitchen by a low bookcase. A large sofa in a red colour and a light beige bookcase were placed right next to it, which became an ideal place to display books and personal items. The colour palette of this part of the house is complemented by a sage RTV cabinet or a cobalt blue armchair. Also worth noting are the linen curtains, which are yellow in colour and give the interior a warm aura.

The modern design is juxtaposed with vintage elements. In the dining area, an old sideboard catches the eye. The table, on the other hand, is a contemporary piece of furniture designed by Iskra Studio. Its large size means that it can seat up to 14 people at a time. The chairs placed at the table are designed by the Polish brand Tamo.

A similar interior atmosphere was achieved in the bathroom on the ground floor. The colour basis was blue granite, which was used at the wash basin and in the recess under the shower. The ceiling and the washbasin cabinet were painted in a slightly darker blue. The smooth microcement walls provide a balance to the intense colours and the vibrant floor with its geometric pattern.

A work space has also been designed on the ground floor. This is a small study where a wooden bookcase and a desk have been set up.

The residents’ private area has been designed on the first floor. There are bedrooms, a bathroom with a sauna and a laundry room. The master bedroom is set up with antique furniture – the bed, bedside tables, dressing table and large wardrobe are a set of furniture that has been in the family for many years!

The house is full of light, cosiness and the unique character of the household. The aim was to create an informal space that fits in with the residents’ everyday lifestyle, soothing and allowing them to relax. The designed interiors are complemented by travel mementos, paintings of friends and even a ceramic vase made by the building’s architect, concludes the Studio Iskra team.
