Salvador Dalí | "Jeźdźcy apokalipsy"

It’s today. The finale of the auction “Salvador Dalí. Graphics”

Until 4pm, the auction ‘Salvador Dalí. Prints’, during which works by the Spanish artist can be auctioned. The online auction includes 19 objects and includes works such as ‘Angels in Flight – Archangel’ from the ‘Stained Glass’ series and ‘Riders of the Apocalypse’.

Salvador Dalí is a representative of Surrealism. This Spanish painter, printmaker, illustrator and painting theorist attended the San Fernando Academy in Madrid in the 1920s. In 1926, he went to Paris, where he met Pablo Picasso, Tristan Tzar. During his first meeting with Picasso, he was able to see his paintings. These made a huge impression on him. In later years, he began to create surrealist paintings. Burning gyres or melting clocks became iconic works recognised all over the world.

Since 1982, following the death of his life partner, he has led a life of seclusion. Thanks to his individual creative method (paranoid-critical), he introduced an atmosphere of the unusual and fantastic into his work. He introduced a virtuoso technique bordering onillusionism,” reports the DESA Unicum auction house on its website.

The online auction “Salvador Dalí. Printmaking’ presents 19 objects by the Spanish artist dating mainly from the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s. The works include the prints Saturn from the Mythology series from 1965, Caprices from 1971 or Pineapple from the Vegetation Inedit series from 1967.

Salvador Dalí | “La girafe en feu” from the “Human Jungle” series, 1976

Among the works is the lithograph “La girafe en feu” from the series Human Jungle, 1976. The silhouette of a giraffe occupies almost the entire surface of the work. Its blue body is surrounded by a black outline and its back is covered by high flames. The fire is a kind of extension of the animal’s mane. The lithograph measures 46.5 x 47.5 cm and has an asking price of £5500. More works by the artist can be found on the official DESA Unicum website here.
