The results of the competition for the new Jamno Transport Hub in Koszalin have been announced. In the SARP competition, the winning entry was submitted by Gąska Wojcieszak Architectural Studio from Poznań. The jury commended the design for its coherent composition, high architectural quality and skilful use of the site’s location on Lake Jamno.
Jamno Transport Hub – design
A total of 19 entries were submitted to the SARP single-stage design competition, which were assessed by the Competition Jury chaired by architect Zbigniew Maćkow. Following several stages of evaluation, the first prize was awarded to the team from Gąska Wojcieszak Architectural Studio in Poznań. The concept was devised by Łukasz Gąska, Mirosław Wojcieszak, Kornel Kuzański, Marta Sowińska Gąska, Teresa Bączkiewicz and Katarzyna Woźniak. In addition to a cash prize of 75,000 zł, the winners were invited to negotiate the preparation of the full design documentation.
Three structures open up a view of the lake
The concept, covering an area of approximately 1,700 square metres, presents the transport hub as a symbolic gateway to Koszalin from the direction of Lake Jamno. Instead of a single, large building, the architects proposed three separate pavilions covered by a shared functional roof. Wide openings have been left between them, allowing a panoramic view of the lake to be seen from Promowa Street. The central pavilion houses the ticket offices, a waiting area and toilet facilities, whilst the remaining functions are located in the adjacent buildings. This layout evokes the layout of old Pomeranian settlements situated by the water, rather than copying historical buildings literally.
Architecture rooted in the tradition of Pomerania
The composition is complemented by two main outdoor spaces. On the landward side, an entrance plaza has been created to accommodate buses, bicycles and cars. On the opposite side is a courtyard facing the lake, intended for water tram passengers and those admiring the panorama of Mielno and Łazy. Both spaces are linked by a main axis running from the bus stop, through the waiting area, to the jetty. This ensures that the entire layout remains clear and intuitive.

The Competition Jury highly commended the proportions of the development and the way it is integrated into its surroundings. Particular praise was given to the arcades, which create spaces for meeting and relaxation, as well as the viewing terrace that makes the most of the site’s lakeside location. The jury also highlighted the thoughtful selection of materials and architectural forms inspired by the traditions of Western Pomerania. Thanks to its understated aesthetic and distinctive form, the project has the potential to become a recognisable landmark of Koszalin.
