Joanna and Jakub’s flat in Krakow. Here, the details mattered!

In Joanna and Jakub’s Krakow flat, colour is not an accessory – it is the language they use to talk about their travels, tastes and memories. It is a space where Scandinavian simplicity meets vintage sensibility, and every detail – from grooved fronts to terrazzo – is part of this multicoloured mosaic. It is a space designed for their clients by Weronika Sypuła from the About The Form studio.

Which part of the flat is the most vibrant? The kitchen! It has become the most distinctive feature of the flat. The built-in furniture combines subtle beige with intense green, creating a duo that immediately catches the eye. The terrazzo worktop with its unique pattern adds character, and the whole is complemented by black handles and metal details, introducing an elegant counterpoint.

Other details that contribute to the space include the stripes on the tiles above the worktop, the milled peninsula panel, the grooved hood and the glass crowning the line of wall cabinets. Behind the latter is a collection of Starbucks mugs brought back from travels. The kitchen also features open shelves for cookbooks, which highlight the owners’ culinary passions.

A meeting place

The kitchen flows smoothly into the dining room, where the centrepiece is a table surrounded by Scandinavian-style chairs. Delicate lamps suspended above the worktop create an atmosphere conducive to both morning breakfasts and long evening conversations. The backdrop for this area is a glass display case showcasing tableware and decorative glassware – elements that bring subtle elegance to the interior.

Living area

In the living room, a red sofa paired with a free-standing pouffe catches the eye. This solution gives Joanna and Jakub more freedom in terms of arrangement than a classic corner sofa, while also introducing a bold, energetic accent to the interior. The warmth of this part of the flat is created by fabrics: light curtains that diffuse the light, drapes, soft carpets and cushions. In the evenings, the atmosphere is created by side lighting – a wall lamp, a floor lamp and table lamps, which allow the mood to be modulated according to needs.

Although the television does not dominate the space, it has been carefully framed. Its frame is accentuated with red, and the wooden cabinet underneath has brass handles with Rosa Levanto marble knobs. These are small but significant details that enhance the quality of the entire arrangement.

Personal gallery

The living area also features an artistic wall, where Joanna’s original works hang alongside posters. This is the part of the flat that best reflects the personality of its occupants – lively, creative, full of memories and emotions.

Two bathrooms

The first bathroom has undergone a significant renovation. The demolition of a wall has allowed it to be enlarged by an entire shower area. The dominant colour is green, combined with black accessories and a characteristic Warsaw corset floor. Beige fittings with delicate milling and brass accents introduce elegance and balance.

In the second bathroom, the key change was the layout. Thanks to modifications to the plumbing, it was possible to move the toilet and hide the washing machine, dryer and laundry baskets behind wooden fronts. The room gained order and aesthetic consistency. The second bathroom is dominated by red – a colour that appears throughout the flat as a bold accent. The grooved elements combine with the patterned floor and terrazzo countertop, and the whole is emphasised by a black strip separating the line of tiles and an asymmetrical mirror that adds dynamism to the interior.
