Just an ordinary fire station? It has become a local cultural centre!

In the small village of Zamarski, one of the oldest villages in the Cieszyn Silesia region, a building has been constructed that redefines the concept of a local cultural centre. “STODOŁA” — a new municipal public building — combines traditional forms of rural architecture with modern design, creating a space that meets the contemporary needs of residents.

The design is the work of ARCHiTEKT studio projektowe arch. Paweł Kuczyński, which combined three functions in one concept: a municipal cultural centre, a volunteer fire brigade unit and a village hall used by local organisations. This multifunctional combination not only organises the social life of the village, but also strengthens its identity, fitting into the historical and landscape context of Zamarsk.

Bartosz Kuczyński’s concept is based on the arrangement of three separate structures, inspired by traditional cottages and barns. Connected by a common ground floor space, they form a coherent, peaceful composition that does not compete with its surroundings. The partial sinking of the building into the ground and the subordination of its form to the natural topography and the axis leading between the park and St. Roch’s Church make “STODOŁA” a natural element of the local landscape.

When I announced the construction of this facility in 2019, during the municipal harvest festival in Zamarski, I knew one thing – it was to be an investment that would set a new standard in our municipality. From the very beginning, I wanted the STODOŁA Municipal Cultural Centre to be not only functional, but also architecturally bold and made of the highest quality materials. Today, I can say that this vision has been fully realised. This building is an example of conscious, responsible design and the result of the consistent work of many people, but also proof that local government can be a true architect of success – if it thinks long-term, boldly and with respect for local heritage, ” says Grzegorz Sikorski, Mayor of Hażlach.

When designing a multifunctional building, we wanted the form to be rooted in the local landscape, but the interiors to meet contemporary functional standards. We were looking for materials that would ensure both durability and a friendly, warm environment for the daily activities of the residents, says architect Paweł Kuczyński.

The design uses acoustic materials from Knauf Ceiling Solutions. The choice fell on natural wood wool panels in a warm shade, which appear in both public areas and classrooms, and above all in the auditorium. Thanks to this, the interiors have gained not only friendly acoustics, but also visual consistency, referring to the wooden elements of local architecture.

The STODOŁA Cultural Centre is a place for meetings, events, concerts, rehearsals and gatherings, which is why acoustic comfort was one of the priorities during the implementation of the investment.

It is a building used by children, seniors, music bands and residents during meetings. Good acoustics are essential – not only for performances, but also for everyday work and conversations. The solutions used really make a difference – in the auditorium, it is possible to talk without reverberation, in the other rooms there is the silence needed for conversations with residents, and classes for children take place in comfortable conditions. This changes the quality of being in this place – sums up the director of the Municipal Cultural Centre in Hażlach, Ms Cecylia Gasz-Płońska, which is located in this building.
