O27 Apartamenty Opolska is one of those developments that clearly demonstrate how Katowice is changing – a city that, just a few decades ago, was associated mainly with industry, is now building an image as a modern, liveable metropolis. The dynamic redevelopment of the city centre, new public spaces, and the growth of services and culture are creating conditions in which residential architecture is beginning to adopt solutions previously reserved for Europe’s largest cities. The O27 apartment block is a prime example.
The development is being built at 27 Opolska Street. The building, designed by the Forma Kuberski studio, will be the first fully glazed apartment block in the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship. The starting point for the project was the idea of maximising exposure to light and the city skyline. The building’s slender silhouette is distinguished by panoramic windows spanning the entire width of the flats. Residents will be able to admire the panorama and neighbouring cities from the top floors of the skyscraper.
European standard of high-rise living
The construction of an apartment block with this design is a major event for the whole city. Until now, Katowice’s skyscrapers have been dominated by large windows, but there has been a lack of projects that fully exploited the potential of a transparent façade. O27 fills this gap, introducing a standard familiar from premium developments in London, Vienna and Rotterdam. The developer, Trust Investment, emphasises that this is a deliberate design choice, intended to genuinely change the way people think about living in the city centre.
– When designing O27, we opted for a glazed façade, which lends an elegant and timeless character. This is architecture created in the spirit of the ‘high-rise living’ concept, typical of premium developments in major cities, situated in the most attractive locations. “Our goal has always been to create groundbreaking projects that genuinely transform the housing market and set a new standard. We are proving that cutting-edge design need not be the exclusive preserve of capital cities ,” says Mateusz Malara, COO of Trust Investment.
Roof-top viewing terrace
Advanced technological solutions are behind the building’s striking lightness. Aluminium profiles allow for the use of glass panes as high as 2.6 m, reaching almost from floor to ceiling. Combined with higher-than-standard ceilings (2.74 m in the apartments), this creates a space with a completely different character. The city becomes an integral part of the interior, offering a view that changes with every season.
However, O27 is not just about architecture. The development brings amenities to Katowice that have previously been seen mainly in luxury projects in Western Europe. These include Poland’s first fully glazed Sky Walk for residents and their guests, suspended almost 100 metres above the ground. In addition, there is a 400 sq m rooftop terrace with an open-air cinema and BBQ facilities, as well as a residents’ club with a cocktail bar and co-working space, and a wellness area with a sauna and a salt graduation tower.
All these elements are part of the wider transformation of Katowice – a city that has been investing in the quality of its spaces and modern urban planning for several years. O27 Apartamenty Opolska is becoming one of the symbols of this change, demonstrating that the local market is ready for projects of European standard.
