The development of the waterfront of Lake Słupeckie in Wielkopolska has won the ‘DNA PARIS DESIGN AWARD’ in the ‘Landscape Design’ category. The competition jury was enthralled by the design by Paweł Grobelny, who showed that piers do not have to be simple and that other shapes allow nature to be better explored.
The award-winning space consists of circle-shaped piers, an urban pool separated from the lake, a bridge to the Swedish Mound and a minimalist platform over the lake.
Paweł Grobelny specialises in the design of public spaces. Urban furniture of his design already adorns many European cities. His designs can be found, for example, in the Albertine garden in front of the Royal Library in Brussels and in the largest city park in Shanghai. He is the author of urban furniture for the Paris business district La Défense and the European Parliament district in Strasbourg.
I was very keen to fit into the existing context, designing rather smaller spatial objects that fit in well with nature, and use its qualities rather than compete with it. The individual platforms and viewing terraces are intended to invite the inhabitants of Słupca and tourists to frequent this space,” says Paweł Grobelny.
The minimalist development and its economical form remind us that the green surroundings are the most important thing in a given place, and the infrastructure is only supposed to help in relaxation and contact with nature.
