Largest concert hall in Poland. The tender for the construction of Sinfonia Varsovia has been launched

The largest concert hall in Poland will be built in Warsaw. It is, of course, about Sinfonia Varsovia, which will be built on Grochowska Street. The long-awaited dream of Sinfonia Varsovia having its own building is coming closer and closer to fruition. The institution has just begun the second stage of a strategic investment – the construction of the largest concert hall in Poland, scheduled to open in 2030 On 13 May 2025, a tender was announced for the selection of a general contractor for this part of the project. Companies interested in participating have until 30 June 2025 to submit proposals.

Design assumptions and urban planning concept

The process of creating the new headquarters began with an international architectural competition, which was awarded in 2010. The selected design, prepared by Atelier Thomas Pucher from Graz, envisages the creation of a music complex at 272 Grochowska Street in Warsaw. After obtaining a building permit in 2019, work began on the first phase of the project – its construction was commissioned in 2023.

The new phase of the project will include the creation of a representative concert hall with a capacity of 1,877 spectators, as well as the renovation of two historic outbuildings.

Poland’s largest concert hall – ambition and functionality

The centrepiece of the development is a concert hall with the largest capacity in the country, designed to the highest acoustic and aesthetic standards. The project is being carried out in cooperation with renowned acoustic specialists: Müller-BBM from Berlin and Eckhard Kahle Acoustics from Brussels.

The layout of the auditorium will combine two classic types of auditorium – ‘shoebox’ and ‘vineyard ‘ – which will translate into excellent sound quality and visual qualities of the space. The main stage will be located on level -1, surrounded by undulating rings of seats, all visible from a spacious glass foyer accessible to all visitors.

The complex will also include a 400-seat chamber music hall, rehearsal rooms, storage areas and full technical and artistic facilities. The restored northern outbuildings will be integrated into the modern building.

Sinfonia Varsovia – the heart of the capital’s new music centre

The new headquarters will not only be a venue for artistic events of the highest order, but also a space open to the residents of Warsaw and tourists. The project includes educational zones, a restaurant, a café and a garden integrated with the neighbouring park. Attention will also be attracted by a 21-metre-high promenade from which it will be possible to admire the panorama of Warsaw.

Upon completion, the institution plans to become an arena for international concerts and cultural events featuring artists from all over the world.

First phase almost ready – launch as early as 2026

Before the largest concert hall in Poland is built, the first stage of the project will be completed in 2026. It included the modernisation of three historic buildings – the Palace, the Western Pavilion and the Music Pavilion at 272 Grochowska Street.

The public will be able to participate in chamber concerts and educational activities organised in these spaces as early as next year. At the same time, Sinfonia Varsovia will begin its activities in the formula of regular artistic seasons, whose programme will focus mainly on chamber music and music education until 2030.
