Less concrete, more greenery – that was the aim of the Mokotow District Property Management Company. In one of the courtyards, a resident-friendly space was created in which nature plays a central role. In the centre of Mokotów, concrete has given way to trees, bushes and ornamental grasses.
Less concrete, more greenery – a metamorphosis in Sielce
Until recently, grey concrete dominated here. Today, the place invites you to relax and the residents enjoy a new, friendly space where trees, shrubs and flowering perennials play a central role. All thanks to the initiative of Zakład Gospodarowania Nieruchomościami w Dzielnicy Mokotów (Property Management Company in the Mokotow District), which has completed the demolition and landscaping of the estate courtyard between the buildings on Stępińska and Sielecka Streets. – As part of the work, 313 m² of concrete slab paving was dismantled, increasing the biologically active area to as much as 89%,” enthuses Krzysztof Skolimowski, Deputy Mayor of Mokotów. In place of the concrete, shrubs, trees and ornamental grasses have been planted. – These are mainly native species, adapted to local conditions and friendly to insects, birds and small mammals. New lawns and a pedestrian route made of mineral paving have also been created in this area, adds Krzysztof Skolimowski.
More greenery means a better quality of life
ZGN Mokotow is currently carrying out additional work involving the delivery and installation of two benches and two litter bins. – This is not only a change in the appearance of the courtyard, but a real improvement in the quality of life for residents. More greenery means greater biodiversity and new habitats for urban fauna. We reduce the urban heat island effect, improve air quality and, at the same time, make the daily view from the window much more pleasant. Such investments are the best proof that pro-environmental measures have tangible benefits for the whole community,” says Joanna Lewandowska, a councillor from Mokotow.
