Linear park over the tunnel in Ursynów. The first part has been opened

We wrote about the plans for this development back in 2020. The linear park is being built over Warsaw’s Southern Ring Road. It is the first park in Poland to be built from scratch, much of which will be on the ceiling of a road tunnel in Ursynów. The first part of the park has just been made available to residents.

The opening of the park was announced by the Warsaw Greenery Board. The park is being built over the tunnel of the S2 expressway, which is part of Warsaw’s Southern Ring Road. The green belt under construction will connect the Skarpa Warszawska area with the Cichociemnych Spadochroniarzy AK park and the Kabacki Forest.

The park is being built along F. Plaskowicka Street, on the section from Pileckiego Street to Nowoursynowska Street in Ursynów. For the time being, you can see with your own eyes what the first part of it looks like. The Warsaw Greenery Board plans to hand over the next one soon. In a few days acceptance of the section from Braci Wagów street to KEN avenue will begin. The second section, apart from greenery, has a playground for children. Here, it will be possible to relax on benches surrounded by hundreds of trees, a rain garden with a bridge and a fountain. Further sections of the park will be made available at intervals of approximately three months. It is planned to open the entire park to the public in spring 2026.

This is an important moment of our investment – you can already walk, relax and even swing in the section of the park from Stryjeńskich Street to Braci Wagów Street. We have planted thousands of plants – 228 trees of native species: oaks, maples, birches, hornbeams, pears, apple trees, rowan trees, dogwoods, as well as shrubs, numerous ornamental grasses, perennials and bulbous plants, informs the city.

The focal point of this section of the park is a vast clearing, where boogers – nature-inspired, irregular groups of trees and shrubs of native species with natural functions – have been created. Meadows will also soon be in bloom in the clearing. Residents are advised to temporarily stay out of the area, where grass and other plants are just beginning to grow, and to keep an eye on their dogs (information about this is posted on signs in the field). Thanks to these measures, everyone will soon be able to enjoy the greenery in full bloom.

Heathland-inspired themed plantings have been created between the clearing and the roadway of Plaskowicka Street. Although heather is not naturally found there, numerous grasses, perennials and bulbous plants have been planted, which will flourish in shades of white, pink and purple. Picturesque birch and pine trees have been planted in between, creating a harmonious composition.

A total of around 1,000 trees, more than 100,000 shrubs, ground cover plants, as well as perennials, ornamental grasses and bulbous plants will be planted in an area of 12.5 ha. Plenty of places to relax have also been provided – more than 300 benches and chairs and numerous lawns on which to spread blankets. Thanks to the winning project from the citizens’ budget, additional deckchairs, hammocks, games tables and shade trees will be installed in the park to provide a moment of shade before the trees reach the expected size.

A number of solutions have been included in the park’s design as an adaptation of the city. Warsaw’s adaptation to climate change – one of these is a rainwater management system. A number of rain gardens will be created, and the largest of these, with an area of approximately 350 square metres, will be constructed at KEN Avenue.

The Palmett company is responsible for the design of the park and its construction, based on the architectural and urban planning concept developed in public consultations in 2016 by the team of the PROINWESTYCJA design and consulting office led by Katarzyna Łowicka.
