Living in a tenement in Oliwa is a concept by architect Jacek Gonera and the owner of the premises, graphic designer Wiktor Kamiński. They have developed a space that fully meets the needs of its occupant, while also taking advantage of the magnificent qualities of the historic building, creating an interior designed with attention to quality and aesthetics.
The project was created in a space of 60 square metres. The most important element of the entire arrangement is the green furniture set against the light kitchen fronts. This is complemented by a floor with a herringbone pattern, which refers to the old character of the Oliwa townhouses. The materials and colours used were intended to help create a durable, timeless and cosy interior.
The concept was created after a thorough recognition of the owner’s needs and an analysis of the flat’s layout. Elements relating to the history of the place were introduced into the design, as well as incorporating contemporary ways of good and functional arrangement. Details play an important role, including original solutions inspired by the Scandinavian approach to design.

The heart of the flat is occupied by the kitchen with a table surrounded by refurbished iconic chairs designed by Professor Rajmund Halas. This furniture adds a lot of class to the space of the graphic designer’s home and reminds us of the very rich heritage of Polish design. Lamps made by the owner of the premises are also an important accent. They emphasise the retro character of the flat and confirm the consistency in the application of individual solutions.
The interior is further enriched by the works of Aleksandra Went, an artist from Gdańsk who deals with ceramics and utilitarian objects. Another group of accessories is created by Oskar Zięta’s designs, which complement the flat’s space with recognisable forms of contemporary design.
The furnishings have been chosen to strike a balance between aesthetics and everyday function. Ceramics, books and small decorations appear in limited numbers, which made it possible to obtain a clear layout and a calm rhythm of the interior. The flat in a tenement in Oliwa by Jacek Gonera draws on the unique character of the district and creates the perfect place to live for a graphic designer sensitive to beauty.
