The 2025 Łódź Design Festival will take place from 20-25 May. This is the nineteenth edition of the event, during which the city of Łódź becomes the capital of Polish design for a few. The event is an opportunity to get to know the best of Polish design and a space for dialogue between the perspective of the creators and a broad view of global and local problems. The organisers have prepared a programme that addresses a wide range of issues, from technological challenges to the climate crisis and the transformation of human relations. The slogan of this year’s edition is not_end / un_end, and the author of the graphic identity is Katarzyna Ludwisiak.
The slogan of the new edition of Łódź Design Festival is nie_koniec / un_end, which is intended to emphasise inquisitiveness and curiosity in design. Its open concept encourages the creation of alternative, adaptive paths for design and architecture in a changing world. The slogan also speaks of the infinite relationship between the individual, such as the role of the designer in creative processes, and the social – the living ecosystems of cities, the changing approaches to defining community, norms or values.
Innovation lab: make me!
not_end / un_end represents the cyclical nature of the process of design and exploration in creative work – from the idea through the stages of creation – testing – revision/revision of the idea to the transformation of the original vision. The festival’s annual “Innovation Lab: make me!” showcases how young designers grapple with both recurring questions about materials, functionality and the effectiveness of their work, as well as new ones dictated by contemporary knowledge of the world and changing research approaches. not_end / un_end is therefore synonymous with continuous discovery, often a novel look at familiar objects or issues. The objects of young artists, often represent a prototype, a work still open. The innovative design solutions awarded in the competition also combine artistic expression with practical application and are the result of reflections by today’s young generations of designers on ideas open to reinterpretation, adaptation and evolution.more about the make me! competition HERE.
EverCity – a city for eternity
not_end / un_end is non-linear in nature, accompanied by a constant reflection on everyday human life. The constant desire to improve the condition of human existence, the struggle against unfavourable changes, attempts and experiments and the reconstruction of ideas influence the way we shape our surroundings. The turns in the narrative often concern the functioning and structure of cities to meet the demands of sustainability, systemic resilience and long-term stability. Design, architecture, urbanism defy closure to specific categories, they develop through a dynamic dialogue between past, present and future. “EverCity – a city for eternity” – the main programme exhibition – will guide the audience through the evolution of architectural ideas for creating welcoming areas to live in. It will look at the various changes in approaches to urban management and the creation of architecture that would support our well-being and improve our quality of life.
15th anniversary of the must have poll
not_end / un_end is also a process of constant evolution in Polish design, which has been reflected for 15 years in the must have plebiscite and its accompanying exhibition. Each year, the exhibition presents implementations that show the changing approach to design – from functionality, efficiency and standardisation to the freedom of artistic expression, play with form and even frivolous glamour. One can see returns to old ideas and reinterpretations of traditional materials, such as ceramics or glass, which continue to inspire new generations of creators. The Polish design market remains open and dynamic, with manufacturers, designers and consumers constantly influencing its shape, creating space for change. The must have exhibition is a record of these processes – it shows the transformation of the market and reveals how innovation and craftsmanship intermingle, creating an endless rhythm of design. LDF – a space for creative activities
The Łódź Design Festival is also in a cyclical mode engaged in an attempt to synthesise knowledge of design, space design and materials, combining various disciplines, media and perspectives. Presenting cultural initiatives in the broadest sense of the term, it rarely limits itself to a single goal or specific solution, but rather opens up a space for reflection, a regular analysis of the creative industries, their opportunities and the challenges they face. In the context of the festival , not_end / un_end also becomes a mobilising slogan, emphasising the role of creativity as a tool to solve key systemic problems through constant experimentation and testing of different solutions, an open approach to diversity and innovative forms of collaboration.
