Łódź: The building at Kilińskiego 36 will be like new!

In Łódź, work has once again begun on the redevelopment of a tenement building standing at 36 Kilińskiego Street. The investment involves the thorough modernisation of the 19th century building, which is in a very poor technical condition and in urgent need of rescue. The renovated building will house 27 residential units, including those adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and a protected flat for young people leaving foster care. The modernisation work will restore the tenement to its former appearance and residential function, and enrich the space with new social and architectural solutions.

The redevelopment project involves the complete renovation of all facades and interiors of the building. The plan includes, among other things, the conservation renovation of the outbuildings, the reconstruction of the balconies and the installation of new woodwork and stylised canopies over the entrances to the commercial premises. The investment also includes the renovation of the gate passage and the installation of a new gate with a gate. Inside the buildings, the electrical and sanitary installations will be replaced. The neglected area around the tenement will be provided with new greenery, paved alleys, landscaping and a children’s playground.

The building will additionally be connected to the district heating network. The basement and attic will have storage rooms. On the ground floor, however, there will be space for storing prams and bicycles, as well as commercial premises, which will be accessible from the pavement level so as not to create architectural barriers.

A Crisis Intervention Centre will be built at the rear of the property. This will be a new facility to support vulnerable people. The building will provide eight fully furnished guest rooms with kitchenettes and bathrooms, two of which will be adapted for people with disabilities. Space is planned on the ground floor for professionals, including psychologists, lawyers, mediators and social workers.

The entire works will take around 15 months and the investment will be worth around PLN 16 million. The project at 36 Kilińskiego Street is part of a wider programme to revitalise the centre of Łódź. In the neighbourhood, renovation of a tenement house at 39 Kilińskiego Street and modernisation of the street itself on the section between Jaracza and Narutowicza Streets has already been completed.
