Looks like it used to. The railway station in Kolodzieyevo after reconstruction

The redevelopment of the station has not only restored the historic building to its former glory, but has also created a modern space that meets the needs of all passengers. Built in 1895, the railway station in Kolodzieyevo looks as it used to.

Kołodziejewo, a picturesque railway station dating back to the 19th century, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian voivodeship on line 353, connecting Poznań, Toruń and Olsztyn, is a pearl of historic railway architecture. The opening of the station in 1894 revolutionised transport accessibility for smaller towns. The station, built according to a design characteristic of the era, delighted with its romantic forms and ornamentation, which unfortunately did not stand the test of time.

The renovation included the building’s façade, including the restoration of the historic window and door woodwork, enriching it with illumination to emphasise its beauty. The passenger areas have been modernised, where historical details harmonise with modern design. There are two waiting areas, including a summer lounge, and public toilets. Modern technologies such as electronic information boards and a voice system further facilitate the journey. Two commercial premises have also been created at the station – on the ground floor and on the ground floor with a terrace overlooking the track. The PKP is encouraging local authorities to take advantage of the rental offer.

The just-completed investment is another revitalised historic station that has been adapted to meet modern passenger expectations. The PKP company is constantly striving to improve the quality of passenger service at railway stations, finalising investments started earlier, but also has new plans that will allow it to respond even better – faster and more efficiently – to the needs of customers and local communities,” says Paweł Lisiewicz, member of the PKP S.A. Management Board.

Significantly, the Kolodziejevo station has also been adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. This was made possible by the elimination of architectural barriers, the installation of signage in Braille, tactile boards with a plan of the station and guided paths to facilitate the movement of the blind and visually impaired. The investment has made the building low carbon and energy efficient. State-of-the-art monitoring, access control and burglar alarm systems have been installed. The immediate surroundings of the station have also changed. A new road and pavement surface was laid, and the greenery was tidied up. Small architectural elements (benches, bins, bicycle racks and a bicycle repair kit) were installed in the summer waiting area. Three parking spaces have also been prepared at the station, including two for people with disabilities.

The cost of rebuilding the railway station in Kołodziejewo is almost PLN 8.3 million gross. The investor is Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A., the construction work was completed by Usługi Murarsko-Tynkarskie Nagórny Waldemar, and the redevelopment project was prepared by the studio WK Architekci sp. z o.o. sp. k.
