Looks like it used to. Tiny Galkowek railway station opened after modernisation

The building dates from the early 20th century and has listed status. Until recently, the beautiful brick façade was disfigured by white plastic windows. Now the station at the Galkowek station looks more like its original shape.

The completion of the works was announced by the PKP S.A. company. The Galkowek station is located in the Łódzkie Voivodeship. It is a small building from the early 20th century. As part of the works carried out, the façade was cleaned and the windows were replaced to match the historical ones. Architectural details were also taken care of.

The interior was arranged in a contemporary manner. The building is heated and air-conditioned, and inside there is a small waiting room with benches and display cases with timetables. Train arrivals and departures are now indicated by electronic boards. In addition, there is a toilet in the facility. The entire station is now more friendly to people with disabilities. Ramps have been built to facilitate access from the building to the platform.

The station surroundings have been given a new look. A small car parking area has been created, a covered bicycle shelter with a repair station for bicycles has been built and new pavements have been laid. New greenery now adorns the entire station. The previous reconstruction of the building took place in 2008; a photo from this year is published below.

The redevelopment of the station cost just over PLN 3 million. The development of the project documentation was co-financed from EU funds, under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment, while the construction work was carried out with the company’s own funds. The investor is Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A., and the task was carried out as part of the Station Investment Programme 2016-2023. The contractor for the construction works is MERX sp. z o.o., and the design documentation was developed by FBT Sp. z o.o. studio. Passenger trains between Łódź Widzew and Koluszki stop at the station.
