Marriott is leaving the iconic building after 35 years. This is the end of an era in Warsaw

The Marriott Hotel in Warsaw, one of the most famous and luxurious hotels in Poland, is leaving its prestigious location on Jerozolimskie Avenue after 35 years of operation. This is an important moment that ends a chapter in the history of Warsaw hospitality.

The Marriott Hotel in Warsaw was opened in 1989 as the first hotel of the chain in Central and Eastern Europe. From the very beginning, it became one of the most recognisable buildings in the city. Its prestige and popularity grew thanks to the high standard of services and its strategic location right next to the Central Station. The hotel offered more than 500 luxurious rooms and suites, modernly furnished and equipped with the highest quality amenities. The views from the windows of the rooms over the Warsaw skyline were one of its greatest assets.

For some time, the media had been reporting on the growing legal disputes between the skyscraper’s owner, LIM Center, and the Marriott chain. The main issues related to pandemic settlements, which caused tensions between the parties. In 2010, Marriott International extended its lease agreement for space in the building until 2044. The agreement was made with LIM Joint Venture, which is the administrator of the building. Despite this, legal conflicts, including several proceedings before the Polish Public Prosecutor’s Office and the International Court of Arbitration in London, influenced the decision to end the cooperation.

The five-star Marriott Hotel will always be remembered by Varsovians as a symbol of luxury and a high standard of hospitality. Over its 35 years of operation it has hosted thousands of international tourists, businessmen and celebrities, becoming an icon in the landscape of the capital. The future of the building on Jerozolimskie Avenue remains open. The LIM Center company, as owner of the skyscraper, will have to decide on the further fate of this prestigious property. It is possible that another hotel or office complex will appear in the place of the former Marriott, which will redefine the character of the place.
