Its interior was designed by Agata Popieluch, who runs the Agata Popieluch Studio design studio. The premises are located in a tenement in the heart of Kraków’s Old Town. Previously, it was dominated by aesthetics from the beginning of the century. The metamorphosis of the flat made the place cosier and filled with light.
Imagine a private oasis of 52 sq m hidden in a historic tenement on Floriańska Street. This unique property, designed for short-term rentals, allows guests to travel back in time – combining historical heritage with bold contemporary design to create a space where every detail tells its own story while providing comfort.
During the works, the renovation team uncovered the old wooden parquet floor hidden under the panels. Although its condition was questionable, it was painstakingly restored, bringing it back to its former glory. This discovery influenced the further shape of the interior, as did the tiled cooker preserved in the living room – a true witness to bygone eras, which became a natural starting point for the new arrangement.
Living room – a meeting space
The living room impresses with a bold combination of unobvious colours and forms. The bright pink ceiling brings a sense of originality to the interior, tempered by the white of the classic stuccowork, which emphasises the height and elegance of the room. Retro-style switches and sockets evoke the atmosphere of inter-war Krakow, while numerous wall lamps and a paper ceiling lamp envelop the space in warm, cosy light. In the middle of one of the walls, a tiled cooker reigns supreme – old and yet so vivid in its recounting of past everyday life.

Bedrooms – light and intimacy
The layout of the flat called for a clever division of the night zone, so a wall made of luxuried glass was proposed, allowing daylight into both bedrooms. In the first bedroom, the walls are covered in a deep mustard colour, which subtly alludes to the colour of the cooker in the living room. A bed in a shade of light pink takes centre stage – a thoughtful echo of the ceiling colour that gives the space stylistic cohesion. The second bedroom exudes tranquillity with its delicate light blue piping. Here, an upholstered bed in vibrant colours and patterned cushions create a glamorous atmosphere, perfect for calming down after a day exploring the City of Kings.
Kitchen and entrance area – contrast and elegance
In the kitchen and hallway, a bold juxtaposition of burgundy walls with cabinet fronts in a light blue tone was assumed. Milled cabinet frames and white zellige tiles bring a classic chic feel to the interior, while the black and white terrazzo pattern on the floor adds a modern twist. The edgy, contrasting kitchen accessories subtly accentuate the designer character of the space, making cooking a pleasure.
This is how the flat looked BEFORE the makeover:
Bathroom with details
The bathroom has been arranged with the same attention to detail. Wooden furniture fronts harmonise with the white zellige tiles, while light blue walls and brushed gold taps add elegant warmth to the interior. Geometric rhombuses on the floor, subtly inspired by the pattern of the cooker tiles, conclude the story of a place where history meets modernity. In this way, the architect has written a chapter in the history of the Krakow interior.
