Right next to one of the parks in Warsaw’s Ochota district, an interior has been created that does not dazzle with ostentation, but attracts with its calmness, light and balanced elegance. The architects from Ukłon Studio have created a space that matures along with its residents – a couple who, after their children moved out, wanted to give their home a new quality.
The nearly 100 sq m flat underwent a thorough transformation, reflecting the changes in the owners’ lives. The functional layout has been rethought from scratch: the former children’s rooms have taken on new roles, becoming a dressing room with a guest room function and a quiet study. The living space has been enlarged to serve as a place for meetings and relaxation.
From the moment you step inside, it is clear that the design is based on a subtle balance between classic and contemporary styles. The hall features a spacious wardrobe with mirrored fronts, a hanging drawer and a pouffe upholstered in light bouclé fabric. This is the first hint of the aesthetic that runs throughout the apartment: elegant but not intimidating, based on natural materials and soft tonal transitions.
Light builds
The living room opens up behind wooden built-in furniture separating it from the entrance. Inside, a television, bookcase and bar are hidden – the functions are not imposing, but rather contribute to a harmonious whole. The focal point of the relaxation area is a Bolia corner sofa with natural, subdued upholstery. Under the window, there is a veneered cabinet with a stone window sill, ideal for displaying items important to the household.
Light flows freely between rooms thanks to glazed passageways, which add lightness and openness to the interior. It organises the space, emphasising its soft lines and natural materials.
A kitchen that connects
The kitchen and dining room have been designed as a coherent, functional whole. Its centrepiece is a dark anthracite-coloured island – a striking accent that also serves as a practical worktop and a place to display porcelain brought back from travels. Behind the grooved glass fronts, the dishes glisten in the light, adding a soft dynamic to the interior.
A round vintage table, renovated and illuminated by a BonBon lamp designed by Mikołaj Nicer, creates an atmospheric meeting point (you can find our article on Mikołaj Nicer’s designs HERE). Veneered shelves run along the kitchen, tying the space together and introducing additional light. The glass display cabinet for dishes emphasises the character of the interior – elegant, yet informal, close to everyday life.

Blissful silence
The bedroom is dominated by tranquillity. The upholstered headboard in a grey shade contrasts with the veneered furniture, creating a frame for a place of rest. In the corner, there is a comfortable armchair with a footrest – perfect for morning coffee or evening reading. The lighting, both wall and floor lamps, allows you to adjust the atmosphere depending on the time of day and your mood.
The dressing room, which also serves as a guest room, has been given a distinctive colour accent in the form of a Sits sofa. The built-in furniture has been designed to integrate the sofa recess and lead to the study via a hidden passageway. The study is dominated by two desks – a workbench and an office desk – above which hangs a family clock. Opposite is a graphic by Wilhelm Sasnal, and the space is enlivened by a bright bookcase in the owner’s favourite blue colour. The frame also features ceramics from Ewa Rybarczyk’s studio, adding a personal touch to the interior.
The bathroom and toilet continue the aesthetic of the entire flat. Subdued colours, a wooden vanity unit, a bathtub encased in fine mosaic and stone details create the atmosphere of a home spa. In the toilet, the patterned floor and stone plinth add nobility to the interior without detracting from its cosiness.

About the studio:
Ukłon Studio is an original design studio founded by Joanna Hutna and Dorota Żak. “We have been working together since we met at the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. We work in the field of interior design, graphics and handicrafts. Based on dialogue, we create pleasant places for everyday life, sensitive to individual needs. We listen, support and advise. Our goal is to implement projects that gain value over time, are simple and refined with attention to detail. When arranging a space, we look for unusual elements, often second-hand, antiques, also in the spirit of reuse. In our work, we combine many fields of art and are open to challenges.” – as stated on the websitehttps://uklonstudio.com.
