The metamorphosis of a single-family house in Łódź by the OSOM Group studio is proof that many houses deserve a second life. Architect Katarzyna Miller of OSOM Group proved that it is not necessary to demolish a house to adapt it to new needs or refresh its appearance. This is not only a cost-effective solution, but also an ecological one. The entire remodelling took two years. Bravo!
“Every house has a story – a space that has accompanied its inhabitants for years, and often generations. However, we believe that even those homes that already seem perfectly familiar can gain a new quality and freshness, becoming places that not only remember the past, but, above all, respond to contemporary needs and support the well-being of their inhabitants.” – says Katarzyna Miller of the OSOM Group studio
The house is made using timber construction, which proved to be a key advantage in terms of logistics and construction time. As a building material, wood is extremely flexible – literally and figuratively – which allowed the architects to respond more quickly to structural challenges and manage the construction stages more efficiently. Thanks to the tremendous commitment of all the contractors, it was possible to complete the entire project in an impressively short time – less than two years. This is a remarkably fast turnaround, especially given the scale and complexity of the redevelopment, which aimed to create a modern space that ideally supports the wellbeing of the homeowners.
Metamorphosis of a house in Lodz – ecological and economical
With remodelling, we give new life to existing buildings. Instead of demolishing and building from scratch, we opt to modernise and improve what has already been created. Such a process not only reduces our ecological footprint, but also preserves the unique character and history of a place. It is a kind of dialogue between tradition and modernity – a space that retains its original charm while meeting the most demanding expectations of modern residents, looking after their well-being.
“Every house has the potential to gain a second life – you just need to spot it and use it skilfully. The conversions we carry out are not just technical upgrades. It is a process in which the space regains harmony and its inhabitants the peace, comfort and well-being they need on a daily basis.” – adds the architect
