Metamorphosis of Kilińskiego Street in Poznań. What a change!

The metamorphosis of Kilińskiego Street in Poznań is another example of changes in Poznań’s urban space. After the modernisation of streets such as Umińskiego, Sikorskiego, Górna Wilda, Fabryczna, Krzyżowa, Czarnieckiego, Wierzbięcice and Różana, the time has come for Jana Kilińskiego Street. Its appearance and functionality will change dramatically, benefiting residents and the aesthetics of the entire area.

New organisation of space after the introduction of SPP

After the introduction of the Paid Parking Zone in Wilda in 2021, the organisation of parking has also improved on Kilińskiego Street. The next step is a major reconstruction including pavements, parking spaces and the roadway. The changes are not only expected to increase the comfort of movement, but also to restore the street to its former glory with new greenery.

Aesthetics and functionality – the key goals of the metamorphosis of Kilińskiego Street in Poznań

As part of the modernisation, the pavements will be made of large concrete slabs and compensating strips of split granite blocks will appear near the facades of the buildings. Parking spaces will be reconstructed using historic in-line stone paving blocks, which will maintain the consistent, aesthetic style of the entire street.

Greenery as an element of the revitalisation of Kilińskiego Street

Particular emphasis was placed on the introduction of vegetation. The project envisages creating green islands and planting as many as 8 trees – 5 plane trees and 3 ornamental Kanzan cherry trees. In addition, there will be more than 300 rose bushes, nearly 270 perennials and as many as 3,500 flower bulbs. Such carefully selected flora will not only enrich the landscape, but also improve the microclimate of the district.

A new enclave of green – the heart of the street after a metamorphosis

A miniature green square is planned for the central part of the street. In this section, the carriageway will be made of cut, row stone paving blocks – the same which is already in place on 28 Czerwca 1956 Street, and which will also appear at the other end of the street, at Prądzyńskiego Street. The rest of the pavement will be given a new, smooth surface of bituminous material.

Renovation financed by parking fees

The costs associated with the modernisation of the street will be covered by funds from parking fees in the SPP zone. The entire investment has been estimated at nearly PLN 2 million. The Municipal Roads Authority in Poznań announces that construction work will start in the last quarter of this year.

A street with history – Kilińskiego has been on the map of Poznań for over a century

Jana Kilińskiego Street, connecting 28 Czerwca 1956 Street with Prądzyńskiego Street, was laid out before 1900 as Bülow Strasse. It has borne its present name since 1920. Most of its buildings are Art Nouveau townhouses from the early 20th century, many of which have been renovated while preserving the original architectural details.
