The Mezalians restaurant in Kołobrzeg, the interior of which was designed by 370studio architects, has been recognised by the jury of the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2025 competition, making it to the so-called shortlist in the category of best-designed restaurants in the world. What makes its design stand out?
From the very beginning, Mezalians was more than just a restaurant. The idea was born out of the need to create a place full of contrasts – both aesthetic and emotional. The name of the restaurant, thoughtfully researched and tested in focus groups, became the narrative axis that seamlessly links the interior to the menu. The 370studio designers boldly juxtaposed classic patterns of Polish hospitality and design from the 1950s and 1960s with unobvious, sometimes even surreal elements, such as a unicorn hanging from the ceiling or an inverted room located on the bar’s wall.
The well-thought-out layout of the space – from the monumental bar to the communal feast table to the intimate lodges – creates a multi-layered structure that invites guests to interact and explore. Every visit to Mezalians is a new experience, thanks to details designed specifically for the venue. The dominant colours, maroon, pink and beige, build a cosy atmosphere, while the proprietary furnishings reinforce the impression of cohesion.
No less important is the culinary layer, created by one of the most talented chefs of the young generation – Rafał Lorenc, known, among others, from the quarter-finals of the Top Chef programme. The menu, co-created with Dominika Targosz and the bartending team led by Kuba Dudek, is a nod to locality, tradition and boldness in combining flavours. At Mezalians, the cuisine is not a background – it is an integral part of a story that engages all the senses.

The accolade in the international competition is confirmation for 370studio that restaurant design can be an art that works and stays in the memory. The studio, which has been operating since 2012 and specialises in HoReCa spaces (hotels, restaurants, cafés), proves once again that localism and creative courage also have a chance to succeed outside Poland. Mezalians, realised in a spirit of partnership and mutual trust, shows that contrasts – if well thought out – can not only decorate a space, but also build a strong emotional bond with the guest.
The final winners of the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards will be announced in autumn 2025. Whatever the outcome, Mezalians has already proved that the Polish gastronomic scene deserves international recognition. Kołobrzeg has gained a place that will certainly be visited by tourists.
