Modernizacja lotniska w Poznaniu / Ławica bez wyciągania płynów

Modernisation of Poznań Airport. There will be no need to extract liquids!

The modernisation of Poznań Airport (Ławica Airport) is set to completely change the image of the airport in Poznań. The huge investment of more than PLN 70 million will make travelling from Ławica not only more comfortable, but also safer. What will change?

Ławica without taking out liquids and electronics

Poznań Airport has been planning for a long time to rebuild its infrastructure with the introduction of modern baggage screening equipment. The port is in the midst of a multifaceted project to raise the standard of security and passenger comfort. The task of the investment is to adapt the port to growing air traffic.

Poznań Airport will be the first airport in Poland where passengers will not have to take liquids and electronics out of their luggage when passing through security checks. They will also not have to take off their shoes. As a result, the Central Security Control Zone (CSKB) will undergo the biggest change at the airport. There will be new scanners in this part of the airport – both for baggage and people. The equipment will be supplied by Smiths Detection and Dimark.

Poznań Airport modernisation – fasterand safer

The Central Security Control Zone will be enlarged where the departures hall is currently located and will be turned 90 degrees. Hand luggage lines will be extended from 12 to 20 metres. At the same time, five passengers will be able to lay out their baggage to be checked. The screening speed of the items on them will increase by up to 2.5 times.

New ETD (Explosives trace detector) devices for detecting explosives in luggage are to ‘sense’ even trace amounts of explosives or chemicals. The first four will arrive in February 2025 and become operational at the beginning of April. The remaining six tapes will become operational the following month.

Check-in counters will also be expanded as part of the investment, including facilities for self-check-in of baggage. Behind the check-in area, a so-called multistore of almost 900 square metres will appear. The parking system is also planned to be modernised, with a larger entrance and exit planned. The Kiss&Fly area is also to be relocated.

“The first effects of the multi-phase redevelopment are already starting to become visible. We are in the midst of a multifaceted project to improve the comfort and quality of services for our passengers and to adapt the airport’s infrastructure to growing air traffic and the expectations of travellers from our airport. We will soon be inviting our passengers to brand new catering areas. Thanks to this change, they will be able to have much more choice and spend time in a more comfortable environment before their journey. Modernising our airport is an investment in the future. We are opening up to new opportunities and doing everything we can to ensure that every journey starts with us in the best conditions. The next stages of redevelopment await us and we hope that the new spaces will pass the test.” – says Grzegorz Bykowski, CEO of Poznań-Ławica Airport.

Modernisation of Ławica – cost

This is one of the largest single investments in Wielkopolska. The assumed cost of the investment is more than 70 million zlotys, of which 30 million will come from EU funding. However, this is not the end of the story. A plan for the expansion of the airport itself is to be announced in 2025. A decision on whether it will be superstructure or expansion is to be made next year.
