Modlin Fortress: the Airport Modlin Hotel will be built within the walls of this historic monument.

The Poznań-based Konkret Group has announced plans to build another hotel on the grounds of the Modlin Fortress in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki. The plans presented involve the renovation of a section of 19th-century barracks and their conversion into the Airport Modlin Hotel. It seems that another section of the ruined complex of mighty fortifications, one of the largest in Poland, will soon be brought back to life.

Airport Modlin Hotel in former barracks

The first stage of the investment involves the commissioning of 123 rooms, with the facility ultimately offering around 250 beds. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026, with completion and opening of the hotel planned for the end of 2027. The hotel will operate as a three-star establishment and will offer a restaurant, lobby bar, two conference rooms, including a larger one with an area of approximately 250 sq m, as well as a recreation area with a terrace.

Concept by CDF Architekci

CDF Architekci is responsible for the design. The visualisation presented (only one has been created so far) shows the modernised Kadetów Gate. This is a historic element leading to the barracks courtyard, which will be adapted into the main hotel lobby. The investment will cover part of the complex located between the Red Tower and the Modlin Fortress Museum. According to the authors of the concept, interference with the external form of the historic buildings will be limited. Everything will also be supervised by a conservator.

Airport Modlin Hotel and other projects

The Konkret Group has owned the former Modlin Garrison since 2013, when it purchased the property from the Military Property Agency for PLN 17.85 million, taking into account a discount related to the protection of the monument. The fortress already houses the four-star Hotel Royal Modlin, Hotel Modlin Palace and the Modlin Fortress Museum – Prochownia 197. The company also has experience in adapting military facilities, as exemplified by City Park Poznań, built in the former barracks of the 15th Poznań Uhlan Regiment.

Modlin Fortress – history

During the partitions, Modlin Fortress was known as Nowogieorgiewsk. The vast complex was built at the confluence of the Vistula and Narew rivers and for many years was one of the most important defensive points in Mazovia. From the beginning of the 19th century, the fortress underwent successive expansions and modernisations. Today, it presents a combination of French, Russian and Polish fortification elements. It was defended in 1813, 1831, 1915 and 1939, and in 1920 it played an important role in the Polish-Bolshevik War. After World War II, it remained in use by the Polish Army, but gradually lost its military significance and fell into disrepair. In recent years, some of the buildings have been taken over by private investors, and commercial projects, including the aforementioned Hotel Airport Modlin, are emerging alongside tourist and museum functions.
