The railway station building in Mogilno was erected in 1871 at the junction of railway line 353 linking Poznań with Toruń and Olsztyn. The brick building has just regained its historical character. Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. (Polish State Railways) has completed a comprehensive reconstruction. The project, which was financed from EU funds under the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme, restored the building to its former appearance, enriching it with modern solutions for passengers.
The facade of the brick building underwent a thorough renovation with meticulous restoration of architectural details. A rebuilt pergola at the north façade and a renovated platform shelter have restored the station’s authentic 19th-century character. To accentuate these assets, discreet night lighting was installed, revealing the texture of the bricks and the masterful craftsmanship of the old craftsmen. The window and door joinery – designed to mimic historic patterns – not only retains heat in winter, but also enhances the façade with the elegant elements of the original.
The interior of the station has changed just as dramatically. A spacious passenger service hall has been created to serve as a waiting area, with vending machines for coffee, drinks and snacks set up. Modern boards informing of train arrivals and departures and a voice system facilitate orientation in the timetable. Two retail and service units of 20 and 76 square metres have been set aside on the ground floor, while the first floor is a space that will soon be developed by the municipality.
An integral part of the investment was the removal of architectural barriers. Footpaths for the blind and visually impaired were laid out along the walkways, and tactile signs and Braille markings were installed inside. This has made the station comfortable and accessible for all groups of travellers. For the sake of the environment, photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof, and energy-efficient lighting controlled by automation was introduced inside. The entire installation and systems are monitored by an advanced Building Management System, which allows energy and water consumption to be optimised.

The area surrounding the station has also received a careful tidying up. The new surface of the pavements and driveway is expected to improve the safety and aesthetics of the surroundings. In front of the entrance, a “kiss&ride” temporary stop zone, spaces for taxis and people with disabilities have been identified, and closer to the street, 11 public parking spaces have been designated.
The station in Mogilno serves PKP Intercity’s long-distance connections to Gdynia, Wrocław, Zielona Góra or Olsztyn, as well as regional POLREGIO and Koleje Wielkopolskie courses towards Toruń, Bydgoszcz and Środa Wielkopolska. According to data from the Railway Transport Office, in 2024 the station received an average of 1.5 thousand passengers per day, and there were as many as 62 stopping trains per day.
The author of the reconstruction concept is Przedsiębiorstwo Organizacji Inwestycji Allplan sp. z o.o., while the construction work was carried out by Usługi Murarsko-Tynkarskie Nagórny Waldemar. Thanks to this impressive modernisation, the railway station in Mogilno has become not only a transport hub, but also a showcase for combining the historical spirit of the railway with the comfort and ecology of the 21st century.
