Mokotow: three pre-war townhouses entered in the register of monuments

These are modernist buildings. They were once considered extremely luxurious. Their value was recognised by the Mazovian Provincial Conservator of Monuments, who entered the pre-war townhouses in the register of monuments.

The conservation protection covers the buildings located at 33 Chocimska Street, 4 Skolimowska Street and 6 Skolimowska Street. These are front tenements with annexes. The extensive arcades, which were created in the building on the Skolimowska Street side, came about because of the regulations in force at the time, which in the second half of the 1930s required them to be introduced in new buildings on narrower streets. The buildings luckily survived the war effort without major damage.

The tenement house at 33 Chocimska Street was bought by Leonard Krupka and Zygmunt vel Zelman Nisson, the building at 4 Skolimowska Street belonged to Ignacy and Zofia Kosiński, while the plot at 6 Skolimowska Street belonged to Dr Maurycy Saidman.

The buildings at these addresses were erected between 1936 and 1937 to a design by Maksymilian Goldberg in collaboration with Hipolit Rutkowski. The architects designed the buildings in a modernist style, and unique solutions were also applied inside.

The townhouses were built in reinforced concrete construction, with arcades for communication and services. The buildings were promoted in the press at the time, where they were praised for their spacious and sunny premises, which were supplied with gas, central heating and bathrooms. The facilities also featured lifts. The building at 4 Skolimowska Street was home to, among others, the Narbuttowa Medical Massage Parlour. After the start of hostilities, the residents were evicted and the premises were used by officials and German functionaries.

After the end of hostilities, the building at 33 Chocimska Street housed the departments of the Bureau of Capital Reconstruction, the main institution responsible for the planning and modernisation of the city and the reconstruction of historical monuments. Journalists from the weekly Stolica and Skarpa Warszawska also worked inside.
