Monochrome flat in Krakow by Gaja Architektura Wnętrz.

The monochromatic flat in Kraków was designed by the Gaja Architektura Wnętrz studio. The starting point for the design was a limited colour palette,” says interior designer Magdalena Gajda, “Harmony and consistency of elements are important from the very entrance,” she adds. Monochromatism and the use of classic colours ensure that the space retains a timeless elegance, while the use of natural raw materials has a soothing effect on the senses.

The main material, which at the same time serves as the colour axis guiding us through the entire space of the flat, is dark oak veneer. Already in the hall we see wooden furniture, fronts and smoked oak planking.

The same oak fretwork has been used to finish the cabinets in the bathroom as in the standing wardrobe in the hallway and the cabinet located in the living room. This is one of the details appearing throughout the flat that add character and cohesion to the rooms. The use of stone imitation tiles and a small colour palette brings a relaxing, calming atmosphere to the bathroom.

Following in the footsteps of the oak veneer, we reach the cosy bedroom, where we see the first colour accent in the entire flat. The interior designer was keen to keep the details consistent, but to break up the monochrome monotony, a bottle green headrest was chosen, which with its velvet finish invites you to relax. The bedroom also features a very minimalist bookcase, oak veneer headboards, and decorative details made of veneer on the wardrobe fronts.

“These are timeless materials and details that bring harmony to the room, and the bold combination of two types of wood creates a unique effect,” – explains Magdalena Gajda.

In the kitchen space, a play of textures and graphic solutions have been introduced, thus maintaining the coherence of the entire project, says the interior designer. The floor has been tiled with graphic tiles that have a delicate texture. Texture is also provided by small tiles, with which the wall between the cabinets is covered.

A table made of solid wood connects the kitchen to the living room. Here there is also another and final colour accent in the form of an orange lamp.

A sofa upholstered with natural fabric invites us into the living room, and the use of dark wood as the dominant colour allows us to relax and unwind after a long day.

The creme de la creme of the project is the bookcase standing in the living room, which is also an interior decoration. All the materials found throughout the flat were used to make it: stone, glass, oak veneer and woodchip. In addition to functionality, this ingenious solution brings elegance and coherence to the whole project, which is what the designer wanted.

This is not the first interior designed by Magdalena Gajda to appear in the pages of whiteMAD. We remind you of the following realisation: A FLAT IN A KRAKÓW TENEMENT IN HARMONY WITH NATURE. SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!
