on 1 December this year, the Moszna stud farm, located next to the historic palace, experienced a serious fire. The fire engulfed part of the historic complex, causing heavy losses. The owners emphasise that the future of the stud suffered as a result of the incident, so a collection has been launched to rebuild the farrowing stables. The cost of restoring this part was estimated at around half a million zlotys. Stud Farm President Magdalena Donimirska-Wodzicka points out that the burnt-down building was of great importance for the functioning of the entire operation.
Stud farm in Moszna – fire
The fire appeared in the morning and quickly engulfed the roof and ceilings of the historic building. Hay and straw were stored in the building, which accelerated the spread of the flames. Their glow could be seen from a distance. Dozens of firefighters were deployed and it took more than ten hours to extinguish the fire. After a difficult battle, only the outer walls of the stables were saved; the remaining structure was destroyed. The firefighting and the rapid response of the services played a major role, which helped to protect the neighbouring structures from further damage. The burnt part includes two service flats and the birthing stable, where foals were born for years.

Evacuation of horses and losses
The most important thing is that no person or animal was harmed. A worker staying in the flat above the stables during the night left the endangered area unharmed. Some of the horses were evacuated and the others were housed in other buildings, so that there was no life-threatening situation. The president of the stud farm points out that a facility of great importance for breeding was lost. Preparations for reconstruction began almost immediately. The owner launched a collection on the portal pomagam.pl asking for support from people interested in the fate of the horses and the heritage of the place. The total and exact cost of the work is not yet known, as the building is to be restored in a way that takes into account its historical features. Initial estimates are in the region of £500,000.
Moszna Stud Farm – history
The stud farm is located right next to the famous palace in Moszna. In 1948, the State Stud Farm was established there, and the first group of thoroughbred English mares was brought to the buildings of the former estate of the von Tiele Winckler family in 1910. The animals were rescued from landed estates in the Wielkopolska region and eastern regions of Poland that had private breeding before World War II. Currently, the herd numbers over 180 horses. The formal supervision is supervised by the Polish Horse Breeders Association and the Polish Association of Breeders of English Thoroughbreds. The stud takes an active part in the work of these organisations. The area used by the centre covers about 80 hectares. The area includes a park entered in the register of historical monuments, meadows, pastures, ponds and agricultural land.
