Mystery House X. The architects deliberately left the form austere

House X was designed by Ignacio Senra, Elisa Sequeros of the Bojaus Arquitectura studio. The building is located on the outskirts of the town of Valdemorillo in Spain. However, you will not find a plain façade or a garden with trimmed grass here. Where did the idea for such an unusual form come from?

Looking at the building, you might think you are looking at a construction site that was abandoned by the builders some years ago. Exposed walls, chaos around the house and an access road taken straight out of a field… The architects wanted to achieve just such an effect.

House X is meant to evoke emotions. The architect duo wanted its austere form to symbolise the ancient fortresses on the Castilian plateau and the traditional stone houses in Monsanto, Portugal.

The new building is 190 sq m in size and was completed in 2024, built on a rocky site defined by a gentle slope. An important element of the plot is an old and large oak tree, surrounded by smaller trees. In order to preserve the valuable trees, the architects designed the building in an X-shaped plan. This plan can be seen well inside, where the traffic axes intersect and the window openings in the rooms frame views of the greenery.

The house is built entirely of concrete. Its walls are 50 cm thick to ensure longevity. The architects want the house to fit in and become part of the landscape.

House X is built to last for generations, deeply rooted in the landscape, just like the granite boulders and trees that surround it, conclude the architects from Bojaus Arquitectura.
