The redevelopment of Złota and Zgoda Streets in Warsaw is nearing completion. Finishing works are currently underway on site, street furniture is being installed, and trees and other plants are being planted. The results are plain to see! The project is being carried out as part of the New Centre of Warsaw programme.
81 elms on Złota
As recently as early 2026, the project was about 70% complete, but the pace of work has clearly picked up in the months since. Planting began at the end of March. The City Roads Authority has announced that a total of 81 elms will be planted along Złota Street. The first trees were planted as early as April, with subsequent ones regularly adding to the street’s new landscape. Changes are also visible in the road surfaces, which are replacing asphalt and concrete. Ultimately, new pavements, footpaths, rest areas and an impressive fountain will be created here; the fountain has been built on the site of the former underpass beneath Marszałkowska Street.
Warsaw’s New Green Centre
Instead of the filled-in tunnel, there will be an above-ground crossing over Marszałkowska Street, a woonerf giving priority to pedestrians, and an extensive system of greenery. Once the entire project is complete, the area around Złota Street is set to resemble a city park rather than a street. Water will play a significant role in the design. Retention tanks have been built beneath the street to collect rainwater, which will later be used to water the plants.

Zgoda Street will undergo equally significant changes
The transformation also extends to Zgoda Street. Until now, the area has been associated mainly with cars and an unattractive appearance. As part of the works, wide pavements, new squares and tree-lined avenues are being created here. This part of the project will feature pergolas, meeting areas and facilities designed to improve the comfort of Warsaw’s residents during the summer heat. An interesting feature will be a misting system hidden beneath the pergola, fed by water from the retention system. According to city data, once work is completed in the block bounded by Złota, Zgoda, Jasna and Sienkiewicza streets, there will be around 200 new trees and nearly 3,000 square metres of green space. Drivers, meanwhile, will be able to use, among other facilities, the car park beneath Powstańców Warszawy Square, which offers 420 parking spaces.
The New Centre of Warsaw is transforming the City Centre
The redevelopment is being carried out as part of the New Centre of Warsaw programme, one of the largest projects of its kind currently underway in Poland. The project covers an area of approximately 2.5 hectares and aims to create a convenient pedestrian route between Central Square by the Palace of Culture and Science, Chmielna Street, the so-called Five Corners Square and Powstańców Warszawy Square. Work on Złota and Zgoda Streets is expected to be completed in the second half of this year.
