No compromises, market pressures or limits to imagination. The young generation wants to live and create in its own way. By means of design, they are fighting for themselves and for a new, better world. The New Generation exhibition is a selection of the most interesting projects from six Polish art schools. What trends emerge from the experiments of the new design generation? The New Generation exhibition, which will take place during the Gdynia Design Days, will try to answer this question. Its curator is Agata Kiedrowicz.
The projects of the young generation reflect the image of the contemporary world as if through a lens: full of tension and contrasts, but also harmony and beauty. The designers are looking for the new. They question existing truths, redefine old notions and patterns, and formulate answers to contemporary challenges in a new, autonomous language. What is the result of the generational manifesto?
The exhibition New Generation is a selection of the most interesting student projects from five universities: School of Form of the SWPS University, the Bydgoszcz University of Technology, the Academy of Art in Szczecin, the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In selecting the projects for the exhibition, the curator was looking for diversity, design and research courage, and ways to regenerate our bodies, surroundings and world.
Selected from nearly a hundred submissions, the projects represent the strong, distinctive voice of a generation. It is worth releasing this polyphony into the ether and confronting it with the melody of the world. This is why the exhibition can also be seen as a research tool – we want to hear the voices of the festival’s audiences and audiences in order to look together at what is important to us today. What social, aesthetic and cultural trends are crucial for us, the creative community?
The new generation invites us into an area of experience and experimentation. It does not suggest ready-made recipes and disposable products. It follows intuition and creative instinct. It opens up to dialogue, reflection and interaction.
