Brzeziny, hitherto deprived of access to rail transport, will gain a modern High Speed Rail (HSR) station as part of the construction of railway line 85, linking Warsaw and Łódź. This is part of the larger Central Transport Port project, which is revolutionising transport in Poland and combating the transport exclusion of smaller towns and cities.
The new station in Brzeziny will be a key point on the route of high-speed trains of the AeroExpress category, serving the Warsaw-Lodz route, and RegioExpress, connecting Skierniewice, Łowicz and Łódź. Thanks to this investment, the inhabitants of Brzeziny and the surrounding area will gain access to regional and national connections. Travel time between Warsaw and Łódź will be around 40 minutes, i.e. the journey will be twice as short as at present. The investment will improve not only the transport possibilities, but also the economic attractiveness of the region, encouraging the development of the local labour market, tourism and services.
The planned railway station in Brzeziny will be a modern facility designed with functionality and comfort in mind. It will include spacious platforms adapted to handle high-speed trains, and the main hall, located in the north-eastern part of the building, will house ticket offices, security offices, a hygiene and sanitary centre and administrative premises. The facility will also be equipped with a service area accessible to both travellers and staff, further enhancing its functionality.
The station will be distinguished by an unusual solution – a green roof, which will become a recreational space available to passengers. It will be connected to the platforms by an off-road staircase, a subway and a lift, which will enable comfortable movement between the communication and leisure zones. The roof, designed as an additional piece of infrastructure, fits in with the modern approach to combining transport and leisure functions.
Work on the station design is ongoing. The environmental decisions of late 2023 and early 2024 have been issued, allowing us to move on to the preparation of detailed design documentation. Acquisition of the land required to build a line with the parameters to achieve operating speeds of 300-320 km/h is also currently underway. The project, which is part of a larger plan for the construction of the High Speed Railway in Poland, envisages the construction of the ‘Y’ route connecting Warsaw with Wrocław and Poznań in stages. Ultimately, the entire project is to be completed in 2035.
The Warsaw-Łódź section, which is the core of the investment, is the first step in realising the ‘Poland 100 minutes’ objective, which envisages fast connections between the country’s main centres. The station in Brzeziny will become an important element of the HSR network, integrating the region with the countries of Central and Western Europe, as well as providing better living conditions for local residents.
