New illuminations will light up the streets of Warsaw! This time, the inspiration has come from urban legends, famous residents and the River Vistula, including the Basilisk, Wars and Sawa, the Golden Duck and Bolesław Prus. The first installations will be on display as early as October.
Warsaw’s new illuminations will replace the retro decorations
After three seasons, the capital is bidding farewell to decorations inspired by the 1950s and 1960s. The illuminated Syrena and Warszawa cars, the Belweder television set and the street soda fountain will make way for other themes. The concept, presented on 23 September 2026, was developed by Multidekor, the company also responsible for the production, installation and technical maintenance of the decorations. Individual sections of the festive route will each have their own themes, ranging from Warsaw’s traditional crafts to the underwater world of the Vistula.
Warsaw legends in a light show
A carousel will appear in the New Town Square, featuring seats inspired by the Golden Duck, Wars and Sawa, and the Basilisk. It will be accompanied by three-dimensional baubles and decorations perfect for souvenir photos. Meanwhile, near the Christmas tree in Castle Square, visitors will find illuminated figures of the Basilisk and the Stone Bear. Interactive elements will help visitors learn about the legends associated with them. Some of the installations can be activated by visitors themselves and used for shared fun.

Warsaw’s new illuminations: famous residents and the Vistula
The Old Town Square will feature decorations dedicated to historical figures. These will include illuminated silhouettes of Maria Skłodowska-Curie, Frédéric Chopin, Stanisław Moniuszko and Bolesław Prus. A blacksmith’s figure will serve as a reminder of traditional crafts. At Castle Square, meanwhile, the Vistula will be the central theme. Photo spots in the form of a fishing boat and a mermaid’s tail will be set up there, whilst a light maze will introduce walkers to the river’s underwater world. Hoover Square, meanwhile, will feature angel’s wings and carol singers. An additional attraction will be the projection mapping on Staszic Palace, featuring animations and music projected onto the façade.
The giant Christmas tree in Central Square
One of the biggest new features will be the 21-metre Christmas tree on Central Square in front of the Palace of Culture and Science. Its lighting will enable the display of programmed animations. Next to it will be the winter sign for the New Centre of Warsaw. Decorations will also adorn Złota, Zgoda and Marszałkowska Streets, as well as Aleje Jerozolimskie. Simple, geometric shapes are set to dominate this part of the city centre. In future festive seasons, the route will be extended to include Wisława Szymborska Passage and Okrzei Street.

Świętokrzyski Park will be lit up as early as this autumn
You won’t have to wait until December to see the first results. In mid-October, an autumn display inspired by plants and insects is set to be unveiled in Świętokrzyski Park. An interactive pathway, approximately 50 metres long, will also be created there, featuring images that change in response to the movement of passers-by. The park will feature year-round lighting, so the illuminated decorations will remain an attraction even after the festive season has ended.
Warsaw’s new lighting display
The contract with Multidekor is worth nearly 53.5 million zlotys and covers three seasons, running until 2029. The new illuminations will comprise nearly 2.9 million LED points and over 900 elements and decorative sets. Special controllers will enable the light output to be reduced during off-peak hours, thereby limiting electricity consumption. The main festive display is set to be switched on in December 2026. The exact date of the launch will be announced later.
