Bentley is set to honour Nicolaus Copernicus. The British brand has announced a limited-edition Nicolaus Copernicus Collection, the concept for which originated in Poland and was developed in collaboration with Bentley Motors and the Mulliner division. The three versions of the car are intended to represent the Moon, the Earth and the Sun, with further details to be revealed in September 2026.
The Nicolaus Copernicus Collection project took almost two years to develop, and the concept originated at Bentley’s Polish branch. It was then developed in collaboration with the brand’s headquarters and Mulliner, the division responsible for the most advanced personalisation. The inspiration comes from astronomy, historical engravings associated with Copernicus, and the heliocentric model of the Solar System. The three interpretations will be named The Moon, The Earth and The Sun. Bentley has not yet disclosed the number of units to be produced, prices, full specifications or the base models. It is therefore unclear whether all versions will be based on a single car or will be assigned to different model ranges, such as the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. What is known, however, is that Copernican motifs are set to feature in numerous details, including veneers, door panels, headrests, floor mats and metal components.
‘The Moon’ is set to draw its aesthetic from the night sky, cool light and the surface of the Moon. Possible finishes include silver, graphite, pearlescent or very dark paintwork, along with metallic details. The cabin could feature phases of the Moon, fragments of engravings or orbital patterns. The Earth theme gives designers greater freedom: blue, green, brown and natural wood can symbolise the oceans, continents and the atmosphere. This version also references Copernicus’s discovery, which placed the Earth amongst the planets orbiting the Sun. ‘The Sun’ may be the most striking instalment in the collection. Gold, amber, copper, orange or deep red may feature on the bodywork, complemented by a multi-layered paint finish that reveals reflections in the light. The interior may feature gold or copper accents, embroidered orbits and radial patterns. The name directly references the famous description of Copernicus’s achievements: ‘he stopped the Sun and set the Earth in motion’.
The origins of the project are of great significance. The concept was devised by a Polish team and subsequently developed in collaboration with Bentley’s headquarters and Mulliner. The brand’s Polish branch thus acted as the initiator of this special series, rather than merely as a seller of ready-made cars. Nicolaus Copernicus is a fitting figure for such a project, as his legacy has a Polish context whilst also forming part of the world’s scientific heritage. Mulliner’s involvement may also be significant for the cars’ collectable value. Their future prices will be determined, amongst other things, by the number of units produced, the base model, the specifications and the documentation. At present, it is not even known how many cars will be produced, so it is difficult to assess their investment potential. A set comprising The Moon, The Earth and The Sun – as three parts of a single project – would be particularly interesting.
The Nicolaus Copernicus Collection responds to changing expectations amongst buyers of the most expensive cars. It is no longer just performance or equipment that counts, but also the individual history of each car, the craftsmanship of the details and the possibility of creating a unique configuration. In Bentley’s case, the inspiration came from one of the most significant scientific revolutions in European history, translated into the language of Mulliner’s handcrafted artistry. The full picture of the collection will be revealed in September 2026. Bentley is set to reveal details regarding the base models, production numbers, design and prices at that time. For now, therefore, many details remain unconfirmed. The idea itself, however, is unique, as Polish scientific history has served as the inspiration for an exclusive series being developed by one of the world’s most prestigious car manufacturers.
