Old walls in a new arrangement. A project for the adaptation of fragments of an old homestead near Pułtusk

A house project by the KONTEKSTY studio, which combines elements of historical buildings with modern solutions, was born in the vicinity of Pułtusk. The main idea was to preserve the existing fragments of the old homestead and incorporate them into the body of the new building. From the outset, the project was geared towards respecting the history of the site and creating a space that meets contemporary needs. The architects breathed new life into the old walls.

History and modernity – the two pillars of the project

The plot of land, which has belonged to the investors’ family for generations, hides fragments of an old homestead with solid stone walls, wooden gates and small windows. Instead of demolishing the historic buildings, the designers decided to breathe new life into them. The modern building has been integrated into the outline of the old walls, and their unique details have become a highlight of the whole.

The new volume harmoniously blends in with the historical context. The house does not overwhelm the historic elements, but emphasises their charm. The unique character of this space is the result of attention to detail and a skilful combination of styles.

Old walls in a modern version

Although the project draws inspiration from traditional architecture, the technologies used are fully contemporary. The house is designed to be energy efficient, with the flexibility to adapt the space to the needs of the family. On the street side, the building is almost completely enclosed – blind walls and wooden gates protect privacy, while also referencing the historic character of the homestead.

Functional layout

The house is designed in an “L” shape, which has made it possible to create a cosy courtyard and to arrange the various zones practically. The main living area with its large glazing opens up onto the garden, providing plenty of light and contact with nature. The former barn has been converted into a garage and utility rooms, and a glazed vestibule connects the two parts of the building, bringing additional light into the interior.

Interiors with character

The interior design perfectly reflects the spirit of the place. Large windows provide natural light and emphasise the proximity to the surrounding nature. The interiors are decorated with furniture collected over the years by the owners, which gives them a unique character. Historic brick floors combine with modern furnishings to create a cohesive and welcoming space.

Every detail of this house is a nod to the past and at the same time a step into the future. It is a place where history meets modernity, creating a warm, family atmosphere.
