One of the prettiest in Poland. Pedet gastronomic concept in Wrocław

It is an interior that brings together various restaurants and bars. Pedet is located in the Renoma building in Wrocław, its interior was designed by 3XA Architects. The space has been shortlisted for the finals of the World Architecture Festival and the World Festival from Interiors. The results will be announced in November 2024 in Singapore. Pedet’s project was the only representative of Poland to make it to the so-called shortlist of 11 projects from around the world in the Restaurants & Bars category.

Pedet is a modern culinary concept located in the space of Renoma, the former Wertheim department store. One of the parts of the complex is the Pedet gastronomic space, whose name refers to the post-war times when the building operated as a General Department Store. The new space reinterprets the combination of references to the former catering function of the site and to the glory days of the Renoma building and its elegant interiors.

The modernist Wertheim Department Store opened in 1930 and was designed by Berlin architect Hermann Dernburg. A characteristic element of the building are the facades decorated with sculptures of heads of people from all over the world. The decoration was intended to symbolise not only the international origin of the goods on offer, but also cultural diversity and openness. The building suffered damage during the Second World War. Partially rebuilt, it was opened in 1948. All floors were opened only in 1985. We wrote more about the history of the modernist Renoma building itself HERE.

Designed by 3XA Architects, the Pedet space is a gastronomic concept that has been firmly rooted in the local realities and history of the place. The space will create seven gastronomic initiatives. They are intended to provide a culinary experience and integrate the local community. Careful interior design, dercor, art and music will help to achieve this.

The communal area features many long tables. The furniture makes it possible to spend time with a larger group and make new friends. Customers can order food from different locations without being separated.

The colours and materials adopted blend harmoniously with the overall building. They include stone patterns, colours of brown, beige, brass and terracotta. These materials are found in the interior and exterior of Renoma, while in our food hall project we use them in a more casual, less formal way,” describe the project’s authors.

The communal area has also been designed for the outside, where long tables and small cocktail tables have been set up, and the mood is created by floor lighting.

An important feature is the stage, located on the viewing axis of the communal area. It is a multifunctional element that is used as a concert stage in the evening and as a café area or exhibition space during the day.

Taking care of visual coherence, the architects proposed to finish the restaurant counters with the same material. The tenants are also united by a common structure for the neon signs with the names of the restaurants and the lighting above the counters. An important part is the visual identity of the tenants, which was kept in the same scheme.

The architects wanted to make staying here comfortable. Places have been prepared for those who want to work on the computer in solitude and care has been taken with details such as the hoops on the poles, which act as hangers for clothes and handbags.
