Orientarium in Lodz opens a butterfly house. Butterflies are not the only attraction here!

The Orientarium in Łódź opens its butterfly house tomorrow. It is worth planning a visit to the Lodz butterfly house, as it is only open for a limited time. Butterflies are some of the most beautiful, but also most finicky insects on our planet. It can be visited every day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is worth noting that, apart from the butterflies, it is also worth visiting, for example, because of the lush vegetation and the stunning fragrance that emanates from the pavilion. The butterfly house will be open almost until the end of September.

Butterflies in all colours, small, medium and the size of your whole hand! These most beautiful insects of the world have taken up residence in a special dome tent in the Orientarium of Zoo Lodz. The dome of the modern butterfly house can be seen from afar. It is located right next to the outdoor enclosure of the Malayan bears. The colourful insects will be observable in the garden almost until the end of September. This is already the second season of the butterfly house at the Lodz zoo.

A scent that… attracts

The smell is something that is very characteristic of the place. – Butterflies feed, among other things, on nectar that we make ourselves, but also on fruit. In order to attract insects, the fruit must have the right scent, so the fermentation process must have already started ,” says Tomasz Jóźwik, a board member of the Orientarium Zoo Łódź – the scent plays a very important role for butterflies. In addition, colours are also important. Some insects prefer red, others yellow and still others will choose blue.

Hot atmosphere

For the butterflies to thrive, they need the right conditions. Sunlight is essential, which is why the roof of the butterfly house is transparent. This is all to allow as much sunlight as possible to fall inside. If the summer turns out to be rainy and cold, the butterfly house in Łódź is equipped with special lamps and heaters, which will maintain the right conditions at all times. But we have no influence on the barometric conditions,” adds Jóźwik, “the butterflies sense when a storm is approaching, even if you can’t see it in the sky yet. They are then less mobile and hide to avoid getting wet.

Don’t touch the butterflies!

The butterflies you can see in the Lodz butterfly house come from all over the world. You can also see the entire life cycle of the insects, look at their cocoons and adults. The most important thing is not to touch the butterflies – stresses BarbaraWicińska, head of the breeding department of the Orientarium Zoo Łódź – this definitely shortens the lives of these beautiful insects. They are delicate creatures, every time you touch their wings, pollen is knocked off them. And it is essential for butterflies to be able to move at all.

These beautiful insects will take up residence in a special dome tent, whose dome can be seen from afar – it is located right next to the Malayan bears’ outdoor enclosure. This is the second season of the butterfly house at Orientarium Zoo Łódź.

As a reminder – the butterfly house in Lodz can be visited every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be open almost until the end of September. The zoo itself is open from 9:00 am and its gates close at 7:00 pm.
