It is a futuristic story about human senses. Iga Węglińska’s ‘Perfect Sense’ exhibition opened in Szczecin. For the first time, innovative solutions were presented to show how the body and sense organs might function in the future.
Iga Węglińska is one of the forerunners of combining fashion, design and new technologies. An exhibition of her work can be seen at TRAFO Trafostacja Sztuki in Szczecin until 26 January 2025. The exhibition ‘Perfect Sense’ is an attempt to answer the question – can lack turn out to be a creative potential?
The exhibition addresses key issues in the field of transhumanism and anthropology of the body, posing questions about the limits and possibilities of human communication. The artist weaves a story about the senses. It is interesting to address the subject of senses in the future. Will we lose them? Or will we gain completely new ones? The artist is looking for new ways of sensing, investigating whether sensory augmentation, the ‘extension’ and augmentation of the human body’s capabilities by means of external objects and systems, is possible. Can such objects actually extend, suppress or intensify our sensory experiences? And if so, how do they do it?
In Iga Węglińska’s work, we can see static and kinetic objects with video elements. They create utopian and dystopian narratives on the embodied human experience. Of particular importance is the skin – a substance, membrane and surface that actively participates in the reception of stimuli.
The exhibition invites reflection on the role of clothing and objects, creating a vision of the future where the boundaries between body and technology are becoming increasingly fluid. The curators of the exhibition are Agata Kiedrowicz and Anna Sienkiewicz-Rogaś.
