PKP Intercity will launch the “Nieśpieszny” train. It’s a journey into the past.

PKP Intercity is preparing a unique initiative for railway enthusiasts and those who enjoy nostalgic journeys. A special train called “Nieśpieszny” (Unhurried) will hit the tracks, transporting passengers back to the reality of railway journeys from several decades ago. Its carriages will bring back memories of a time when the journey itself was the most important part of the trip.

25th anniversary of PKP Intercity in Poland

“Nieśpieszny” was created as part of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of PKP Intercity. The project is intended to recall the atmosphere of travel in the 1980s, when travelling by train was completely different from today. The combination of historic locomotives in their former colours with classic carriages equipped with original elements from that era will allow passengers to feel the atmosphere of past decades. For many people, it will be a return to memories of their first holiday trips or family journeys by rail.

“Unhurried” and weekend routes throughout Poland

The special train will appear on numerous lines in different parts of the country. Weekend services will run in many directions, so each journey will bring different landscapes and new regions to discover. The timetable will include over 40 journeys, each of which will be given its own name, including “Sawa”, “Góral”, “Krzyżak” and “Krasnal”. The organisers want to visit all provinces in this way, turning each route into a small railway celebration.

Historic locomotives and flavours from the WARS carriage

The train will consist of carriages known from Polish tracks from several decades ago. Olive-coloured first and second class carriages, such as 112Ag, 111Ag, 111As, 110Ac and 609A, will reappear in regular service after thorough refurbishment. Each journey will offer approximately 200 seats. The train will be headed by legends of Polish traction, including the EP05-23 “Czesio” electric locomotive, the famous “Seven” series EU07 and EP07, as well as the EP08 models known as “Świnka” and EP09 known as “Epoka”. The atmosphere will be complemented by a WARS type 113A bar carriage, where passengers will be able to try classic Polish dishes and drinks associated with journeys of the past.

Tickets for the “Unhurried”

A separate commercial category marked with the abbreviation ICN, i.e. InterCity Nieśpieszny, has been introduced for this project. The first journey will take place on 17 April 2026, and ticket sales will start in the second half of March online and at ticket offices. Bicycles, dogs and luggage will be allowed on board in accordance with the carrier’s regulations. As part of the initiative, a collection of souvenirs inspired by the style of railways from years ago has also been prepared. The year 2026 is of particular importance to the industry, as the Sejm has declared it the Year of Polish Railways, commemorating the 100-year history of this means of transport in the country.
