Muzeum Wody w Bahrajnie

Polish Water Museum project honoured in Bahrain

Robert Majkut’s Warsaw studio has once again won international recognition in the world of architecture. Its concept for a futuristic Water Museum in Bahrain was among the winners of the Vision Awards 2025, a prestigious competition organised by the Architizer website, which rewards the most innovative architectural projects in the world.

Bahrain Water Museum from Robert Majkut Design

The Water Museum project by Robert Majkut’s studio was recognised for its bold form, technological precision and rich symbolism. The jury emphasised that, through the use of parametric programming, the concept has a real chance of being realised, despite seemingly defying the rules of gravity. The building is to have an impressive area of more than 140,000 square metres and have 18 storeys, including 15 above ground and three underground. The creators describe it as a space where nature meets science and high-end architecture. Its shape was inspired by water itself, its dynamism, changeability and ability to take on different forms.

Architecture awarded by Architizer

The museum is being built in a vast green park with a network of ponds and ponds, forming a natural ecosystem where water and architecture co-create a coherent landscape space. The body of the museum itself is reminiscent of a drop of water, and its organic lines are intended to symbolise fluidity and continuous movement. The structure has been designed to remain stable while appearing light and almost floating. A system of reinforcements reminiscent of the ribbing of a ship’s hull further refers to the maritime symbolism of the project.

The authors of the project have planned an unconventional way of visiting the museum. The entrance to the building is to be located on level -1, from where visitors will take a lift directly to the tenth floor, named ‘Line Zero’. This is the symbolic level of the water surface, where visitors will be able to experience its power through interactive installations. From here, a path leads down through the nine floors of the exhibition. The themes of the exhibitions are to show the role of water in the origin of life, its presence in culture, its importance in scientific research and the search for this resource in space. In addition to the museum section, the facility is to include educational spaces, a research centre, recreational areas and commercial spaces overlooking the bay.

Commendation by Robert Majkut Design at the Vision Awards 2025

The Water Museum project is not the first success for the Warsaw office. In August this year, Robert Majkut’s team received an honourable mention at the Architizer A Awards for its concept for Oasis House, a luxury villa in Dubai. We wrote about it HERE. In both cases, the bold approach to form and the combination of minimalism and futuristic design were recognised.

As Robert Majkut puts it:
“Architecture does not just describe or order the world – it co-creates and shapes it. And water is this world’s first language and creator.”
