A detached house called Posh Buster, designed by Jan Sekuła’s ZARYSY studio for investors of Italian origin, has been built on the outskirts of Warsaw. Every element of this design was developed with great attention to proportion, materials and even the smallest finishing details. The effort paid off! Sekuła’s project was honoured in 2026 with the prestigious Golden A’ Design Award in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design category.
The project was created specifically for a couple of Italian origin who are passionate about cooking, design and applied arts. Even at the stage of developing the building’s form, the architects from the ZARYSY studio were already creating the interior concept. This meant that the proportions of the rooms, the details and the furnishings evolved simultaneously and in harmony. The design focuses on a skilful combination of numerous inspirations. Fine stone, American walnut, bold colours, soft curves and graphic accents come together to form a carefully considered composition. The atmosphere of this space is best captured by the phrase ‘cosy, posh & fun’. Here, elegance is counterbalanced by unexpected forms, humour and a sense of freedom.
The ground floor forms an open-plan living area where the kitchen, dining room and living room flow into one another without clear boundaries. In turn, their individual sections are defined by subtle changes in geometry, the arched lines of the ceiling and forms that transition seamlessly from one space to the next. Even the corridors and staircase have been given an equally important role, as they have been designed to create a rhythm for moving around the house. The recurring arcades and rounded forms ensure that an interestingly composed view opens up from every spot in this part of the Posh Buster.
The most important material used in the interior is American walnut, whose warm colouring, distinct grain pattern and natural texture lend the rooms a cosy feel. The wood flows seamlessly from the architectural elements into the built-in furniture, creating a cohesive whole. The ceilings have also been treated as an integral part of the composition, defining functional zones and the rhythm of the space. Each ceiling has been individually designed, as have the fitted units, carpets and many pieces of freestanding furniture. Colour is used sparingly, yet precisely accentuates selected parts of the interior. The final colour palette was developed through collaboration between the designer and the clients, thereby striking a balance between the boldness and tranquillity of the composition.
The garage is also worthy of note, as it has been given a completely different function here than in typical homes. Rather than hiding the car in a dark room, the space has been transformed into a kind of display area resembling a shop window, highlighting the owners’ passion for motoring. Great importance was also attached to lighting. Functional lighting is complemented by decorative fixtures, and items created specifically for this house include a pendant lamp above the kitchen island and bespoke neon installations. The interior design of Posh Buster was created in collaboration with local craftsmen and joiners, ensuring the highest precision in the bespoke manufacture of all elements. The result has been recognised internationally – the Posh Buster project by Jan Sekuła’s Zarysy studio won the Golden A’ Design Award in 2026, a distinction awarded to the most refined projects in the fields of interior architecture and exhibition space design.
