In 2024, the city of Poznań allocated PLN 1.3 million from its budget for the renovation of historic buildings. Thanks to this support, it was possible to renovate 11 historical buildings, including beautiful Art Nouveau townhouses located in Lazarus and Jeżyce, as well as churches and elements of their furnishings. The money invested has ensured that Poznań’s monuments will continue to please the eye for years to come.
Poznań monuments – distribution of funds from the city budget
The distribution of funds was based on the decisions of the city councillors. Grants were awarded to buildings entered in the register of monuments, located in Poznań but not belonging to the city. Out of 27 applications submitted, 11 projects were selected on the basis of historical value, technical condition and the urgency of the necessary work.
Renovation works carried out in 2024 in Poznań
Thanks to city subsidies, a number of conservation works were carried out in 2024. For example, PLN 200,000 was earmarked for the restoration of the side elevation of the tenement house at Roosevelt and Zacisze Streets. This is part of an Art Nouveau complex from the early 20th century. In Lazarus, in turn, two Art Nouveau townhouses were renovated. pLN 135,000 was used to renovate the façade of the building on the corner of Matejki and Grottgera streets, while PLN 70,100 was spent on renovating the staircase in the building at 22 Chełmońskiego street.
Other projects included:
– continuation of the renovation of windows in the tenement house at ul. Mielżyńskiego 27/29 (PLN 50 thousand),
– renovation of windows in the Jewish Community building at ul. Stawna 10 (PLN 50,000),
– repair of windows in the tenement house at ul. Woźna 7/8 and 9 (PLN 50 thousand),
– renovation of the roof of the tenement house at ul. Wodna 22 (PLN 125 thousand),
– renovation of the entrance door of a tenement house at ul. Wyspiańskiego 15 (PLN 4.9 thousand).
Significant amounts were also allocated to religious buildings. The Baroque altar of Our Lady in the church on Franciszkańska Street was renovated thanks to a grant of PLN 290,000. In turn, PLN 250,000 was earmarked for the continuation of repairs to the southern façade of the church in ul. Garbary, and work on the dome of the Church of the Discalced Carmelites was supported by PLN 75,000.

Programme of Reconstruction of Monuments
Poznań has also benefited from government funding under the Programme for the Reconstruction of Monuments. Completed projects included the renovation of the roof of St Casimir’s Church in Śródka, the façade of St Michael the Archangel’s Church and the conservation of historic organs and a clock in other churches. Another important element was the insulation of the foundations of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. All works were successfully completed before November 2024. Applications for funding for conservation, restoration or construction work on monuments for 2025 must be submitted by 15 February. Under the new rules, from this year not only owners of objects entered in the register of monuments can apply for subsidies, but also those who own objects included in the municipal register of monuments.
