The Prague 3 district of the Czech capital saw some unusual Christmas illuminations this year. Children from local kindergartens were involved in the creation of the decorations, and their drawings became the inspiration for the new luminous decorations. The installations appeared primarily in the area of Seifertová Street near the Viktoria Žižkov bus stop. Their purpose is to bring a light, cheerful atmosphere to the neighbourhood.
Children’s artwork as Christmas illuminations
The district council asked kindergartens in the Prague 3 area to submit drawings made by children depicting festive themes. The five most interesting works were selected from among those submitted, which depicted an angel, a present, a snowman, a Christmas tree and a fish. These were used to create luminous decorations that will complement this year’s decorations in the city. As pointed out by Mayor Michal Vronský, the use of children’s ideas strengthens the bond of the youngest residents with the neighbourhood and allows their creations to be placed in the public space, adding to its unique magic at Christmas time.
Children and parents’ joy at the initiative
The idea of involving the youngest children in the design of the district’s illuminations aroused great interest. Children from many different kindergartens took part in the project, enthusiastically creating drawings inspired by Christmas themes. The opportunity to see their own work transformed into luminous decorations caused great excitement and a sense of great distinction among the youngest children. Parents were also delighted with the initiative, emphasising that their children’s participation in the project was a source of pride and important memories.
Christmas illuminations and plans for the coming years
Due to such great interest, the local authority plans to continue the project in future seasons. This year’s initiative is the start of a new tradition for Praga 3 and the district intends to use more children’s work in the future to extend the idea of jointly created Christmas decorations to more streets and squares.
