Puszczykowo house – modernisation with respect for history

A typical single-family house from the 1970s, located in Puszczykowo near Poznań, has undergone comprehensive modernisation. The building was given a new lease of life thanks to carefully carried out renovation work according to a design by Patan Studio, which highlighted its assets and additionally took into account the needs of today’s residents.

Architecture and location

The house is situated in an exceptional location, right next to the charming Wielkopolski National Park. This was one of the decisive factors in its purchase. The building did not seem to stand out, but the attention of the new owners was drawn to the loggia running along the entire façade and the picturesque view of the greenery. For this reason, the decision to purchase the property was made almost immediately. The building was designed by Leszek Klause, an architect known, among other things, for his developments around Plac Wielkopolski in Poznań. His design was characterised by a functional layout and excellent use of natural light, which has stood the test of time.

Puszczykowo house – adaptation

The unusual structure of the house, resulting from its original purpose, required a non-standard approach to adapt the design for the new owners. The ground floor was not formerly a living area – the previous owner, a tinsmith by trade, used it as a garage and his workshop. The new hosts decided to transform this space into a spacious studio, ideally suited to remote working. The main living area of the house is on the first floor. At the time of purchase, the interior resembled a communist museum unchanged for decades. On the one hand, this meant that plumbing and other elements had to be completely replaced, but on the other hand it avoided hidden structural problems. However, the renovation project was based on the principle of respect for the original. Instead of a radical reconstruction, it was decided to preserve selected characteristic elements.

Thoughtful aesthetics and an interior with soul

The classic three-part windows have given way to large glazed areas that open up the interior to the surrounding nature. The functional layout was only slightly adjusted by eliminating several doors and widening the passageway. This treatment made it possible to create a 70sq m space that seamlessly connects the living room, dining room and kitchen. The house retains the original parquet floor and double doors, giving the interior authenticity and a bit of the spirit of history. The arrangement of the entire space has been refined with exceptional attention to detail. In the living room, a marble coffee table from the 1980s takes centre stage, while an oval table of mango wood has been placed adjacent to it. The walls are decorated with a serigraph by Julian Stańczak, and the whole is complemented by a Monlo bookcase. The bedroom has been arranged with peace and harmony in mind. A spacious wardrobe is hidden behind the wall, while a dressing table with a chair designed by Fabio Novembre was placed next to the bed. The kitchen is also dominated by minimalism. Smooth handleless fronts, a microcement floor and a geometric division of surfaces create a very elegant arrangement. The camouflaged entrance to the pantry and the Taj Mahal quartzite worktop, complemented by a hand-woven rug, add warmth and clarity to the design.

Don’t let the editor’s profile picture fool you. Nobody hacked our website! The LEGO brand encouraged us to celebrate Children’s Day in a unique way. We changed the profile pictures of our editors, taking us back to the blissful time of childhood 😊. The cursor in the desktop version, which turned into a LEGO block for a few days, is also a variety. This version of the website will accompany us until 1 June. This year, on the occasion of Children’s Day, the LEGO brand prepared a special action with the Slowhop platform, as part of which it filled 21 houses across Poland with LEGO bricks sets and gave those willing to participate the opportunity to spend a weekend of creative play in them. We wrote more about this action HERE and HERE.

PS. and if you are looking for an idea for a LEGO set for creative play, check out our suggestions HERE. These are good gift ideas, not just for Children’s Day!
