The Rabbit Bastion is a fragment of the 17th-century fortifications located in Gdańsk. It is exceptionally valuable both historically and architecturally. It is one of the fourteen bastions of the Old Dutch type with which Gdańsk was fortified in the years 1622-1636, and one of five such structures still existing in Gdańsk today. Some of the historic properties will soon be renovated.
Nine residential buildings on Reduta Dzik Street, managed by Gdanskie Nieruchomości, will undergo major renovation. Tentatively, the work is scheduled to begin in mid-2025. The buildings undergoing major renovation date back to the turn of the 20th century. The renovation will include buildings standing on Redoubt Dzik Street at addresses: 1, 2, 3, 4, 4a, 5, 6, 6a and 7.
Rabbit Bastion – Phase I
Currently, a company selected in a tender by Gdanskie Nieruchomości is preparing the project documentation for the investment.
– The value of the contract for the preparation of the design documentation is just under PLN 870 thousand gross. The cost estimate for the entire investment will be known in the second stage – informs Barbara Weiss, senior communications officer in the municipal unit of Gdańsk Properties.
The approximate date for the start of the construction works in the facilities on Reduta Dzik Street is mid-2025. The project will preserve the majority of the residential units. Ultimately, there will be 32 residential units and four commercial units. The latter will be located in buildings 3, 4a and 6.
The estate of buildings on Redoubt Dzik Street is under the protection of the conservation officer. The buildings are located in the area of the Rabbit Bastion, which, apart from the Miś, Wilk, Wyskok and Żubr bastions, is located in the area of the protected urban layout of Gdańsk. In addition, by order of the President of the Republic of Poland in 1994, this part of the city, as being located within the range of the 17th-century fortifications, was declared a Monument of History.
The Rabbit Bastion is not the only historic building currently being renovated in Gdańsk. The city has been investing in the renovation of historic buildings for years. More metamorphoses of buildings can be found HERE!
